August 2011 — "The Wood Steakhouse in Canmore is a quaint lounge for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Wood was recommended by friends of ours when visiting Canmore. We noticed the outdoor patio right away which is very inviting, and you had to go inside to be seated. There is a view of the mountains at any table on the patio area which creates a relaxing atmosphere. The menu is pretty basic and pricy. We noticed cheese bread for $8 dollars and it looked like two pieces of bread with melted cheddar cheese, so we decided not on any appetizers. Our server was very attentive and helpful with an allergy request. We shared a hearty spicy chicken club wrap (which wasn’t very spicy) and a side green salad with a very tasty house dressing. If you don’t like onions please tell your server as the salad was basically covered with red onion, it seemed to be excessive for a small salad. We did enjoy our lunch and the relaxing ambiance of the Wood, but I wouldn’t recommend it to any of my friends knowing there are other places in Canmore to experience. "

August 2010 — "On a much needed escape from the city, we headed to Canmore to have lunch. There was some type of bike race going on, so the town centre was packed. We walked around and came across the visitor centre and thought it might be nice to play the tourist. We went in and got a restaurant guide and a few recommendations on where to eat... One of these was the Wood Restaurant & Lounge, which was just about a block from the visitor centre. The place was packed! They have a huge patio but a nice two-person table had just opened up and I made sure to point that out to the hostess so we could have it. Our server greeted us within a few minutes and took our drink orders. The menu is filled with a bunch of things like appetizers, salads, steak, pasta, burgers etc. I decided to get the steak sandwich for something like $18. I got the soup of the day, potato leek. When it arrived, the steak was cooked medium rare as I like it, but it was cold and the mushrooms it was served with were cold. The soup was just okay. I was pretty disappointed. I think it just took a long time to be delivered to the table because the servers were busy with the full patio. My wife got the beef dip with chicken tortilla soup. I ate some of her beef dip and thought it was good, the bread was nice and fresh. The redeeming factor was that it was a nice patio with views of the mountains and the service was fairly good. "

May 2009 — "Very nice decor, warm and inviting. However, food and service a bit of a let down. Waited for over an hour for our food. When it eventually showed up the portion sizes were very small. Expected it to taste amazing because it was so small, tasted very average like something you could have cooked at home yourself. Very dissapointing, we expected more."

September 2008 — "The Wood is on Main street in Canmore. It is very inviting from the street as it has a huge deck out front which has many tables and trees. Through the front doors to the right is the lounge, which has dim lights and oversized furniture. To the left is the formal dinning room, where we ate. The interior is all large planks of wood from the original building, which has been re-enforced with large beams on the vaulted ceilings. The chairs were all oversized, tall backed leather and the tablecloths were clean and white. The wait staff were very pleasant and showed us to a private table towards the corner of the dinning room. There were many large windows with views of the mountain tops over Canmore. We ordered our drinks; 2 beer, 1 wine and one French press coffee. Our waiter came back with our drinks as we decided on lunch. My husband and I decided to share a wild game platter for two, as did my in-laws. I also ordered a salad to share. Our wild game platters came with multi grain breads and butter. There was boar pate, caribou smoked meat and smoked duck breast. There were also cheeses to go with each of the meats. The platter was very good and the prices were decent. Our bill came to just under $100 for the four of us. I would go back to the Wood as they had a large selection of menu choices and the ambiance was wonderful."
