January 2010 — "This was our second time visiting as I just could not get enough of the way they make their mackerel (saba) - I think they do something similar to grilling it. Anyways, as with last time, we went in on a Saturday night and we were the only ones in the restaurant (around 7pm) - which we predicted it to be a result of high prices. We started with a fried squid appetizer ($10-11) - which was a tiny glass with a few tentacles in there. It was good but was nothing special. Then we ordered a scallop roll ($13). We were excited, thinking there would be tons of scallops. To our disappointment, there were only a few thin slices laid out on top of the roll and the whole inside of the roll was fried batter. It was dry, bland and even worse, we were never offered soy sauce for the entire meal. We also ordered nigiri ($7-9 per 2 pieces) - mackerel, butterfish, tuna belly and yellow tail. They were fresh and the butterfish was also a favorite - it did slightly taste like butter. However, the slices of fish were quite thin - some of the mackerel pieces were falling apart as well. Overall, this place is OK, simply because the prices are so high for minimal food. This meal left us room for dessert, that`s for sure. And it would feel better if we were not the only ones eating in there. "

"Best Fusion Sushi in TOWN!!"

June 2009 — " Blowfish is one of my favorite restaurants. I often frequent this little sushi lounge. My absolute favorite is the Blowfish Special Roll. It is absolutely to die for. I have introduced many, many, friends to this delicous, exsquisite roll. And every single person has fell in love, just like me! It comes out with a beautiful presentation which first catches your eye. Then you pick up a piece of the roll, warm shrimp tempura, cream cheese, roe, salmon and mango on top, drizzled with mango sauce and this other delightful dark sauce I have never quite figured out... This roll is so flavorful, especially when you use the mango sauce on the plate for a little extra something, you don't even need the soy sauce. It's wonderful. I get excited and hungry just takling about it!! Blowfish is my favorite fusion sushi restaurant, and you may think you are paying a little more, but it's because of what you are getting. Value for your money. It's no plain jane sushi, it's creative, it's upscale, and it's a very trendy menu selection. If your looking for a great appetizer, their pork gyoza are awesome too. They even make their own dipping sauce for them and trust me this is not your regular vinegar and soy sauce some places serve with this dish. Try it, you'll love it!"

"Pricey but terrific, creative sushi"

March 2008 — "It had been more than a year since my first visit to Blowfish Sushi Lounge and I was very impressed with my experience. I went for a weekday lunch and had three items: one order of hamachi nigiri, one spicy tuna roll, and one yam tempura-avovado roll. Just water to drink. The sushi came seriatim, dish by dish, well spaced. First, the hamachi. Blowfish serves two pieces per nigiri (or sashimi, your choice) order, one naked and one with a little dressing up. My duded-up piece of hamachi had a little pile of a finely diced chili and onion salsa. I’d have liked both piece done this way because it complemented the bland hamachi (bland but buttery good) nicely. Next the spicy tuna roll, which was outstanding, with interesting contrasts in texture and really, really easy to eat. Tuna is draped over the dish with julienned veg and a little fried tempura crispiness inside. It tastes delicious, balanced rich spicy and textural. Rice is perfect too. This might be the single best maki I’ve ever had, anywhere. Then came my avocado-yam roll. I was expecting something like I had at a Ma and Pa sushi place I'd just been to in Vancouver with this one, that is, a roll with the sliced yam tempura and sliced avocado in a roll as the filling. Blowfish doesn’t do anything that prosaically. It had the finely-sliced tempura on the inside, but the avocado was draped over the top as with my tuna in the first roll; then the whole roll was adorned with a sort of peach-coloured sauce; in fact it looked bit like a fruit-flavoured yogurt. Nope: it it’s mango mayonnaise. Rich and sweet and little savoury too, you ca (I hope) imagine how well it accompanies the veggies in the sushi. Tremendous, and in the end, very filling. Lunch was on the expensive side, almost $30, but the value was on the plate and I enjoyed every morsel. I want to go to this place more often!"

"Very Good 'Original' Sushi"

December 2007 — "We started the night with a reservation for the Red Door Bistro, only to find that they had made our reservation for a night when the entire place was booked for a corporate Christmas party. Not wanting to head into the Keg, we decide to walk into Blowfish. Right away we get greeted and seated. Started the niht with some warm Sake and an order of Edamame which both really warmed my belly. Next we ordered crucnchy salmon, california and avacado and yam rolls. Each was presented phenomenally and each original roll was better than the last. I've never had a clifornia roll taste soo good and the avacado yam was something I've never seen or heard before but would eat now if I had it. The crucnchy salmon rolls were definately my favorite though, with a multitude of flavors and textures, you won't be disappointed. The 300mL of Sake, two glasses of wine, 3 rolls, and Edamame came to a total of 70 dollars which I think is a good price considering the satisfaction that I felt. Sushi Lovers, Check it out."

December 2007 — "The cajun roll was full of flavor. This sushi lounge is a bit expensive but is worth it if you want to try sushi with different flavors."

"Search Elsewhere, Sushi Lovers"

June 2007 — "My wife and I love sushi and have been looking forward to Blowfish for some time, but it appears we have made our one and only visit. We expected a full house on a Friday night, but there were only four tables present at 7:30. We ordered the house wine and gyoza to start. The gyoza was fantastic, tasty, and perfectly salty. We also ordered three rolls: the cajun, shrimp tempura, and pizza rolls. The shrimp tempura roll was great, but the cajun roll was sort of a deep fried melange of non-flavour. Everything we ordered was presented beautifully on simple, clean white plates. Then came the pizza roll. If you're only going to have seven rolls on your menu, they had better all be good. This was kind of gross. It was deep fried rice topped with some deep fried seaweed. A layer of cooked salmon was topped with some $0.99 pizza sauce and mozzarella. It was truly gross. Oddities: we ordered wine and had to serve ourselves, but we couldn't be left with the soy sauce alone. The place is decorated beautifully and the presentation of the food is amazing, but you have to use the same wooden chopsticks you get at the mall take-out place. We had to ask twice for water. At least I was reassured in our opinion when the couple next to us, who arrived after us, fingered their food, displayed some rather obvious dismay, and left before us. Truly not worthy of the $70+ bill we got for some rather skimpy plates of "sushi". I would be surprised if this place makes it another year. "
