"Great soup!"

July 2011 — "Saigon Y2K on Centre Street is a great place to go for Vietnamese soup. It's best to avoid it for lunch during the week as it gets very busy and it's almost impossible to get a table due to the corporate lunch crowd. The service is quick though and they know their food! I like the sate beef noodle soup. They put tons of thinly sliced beef in it and the broth is really tasty! The noodles are cooked just right and of course they bring all the fixings to go in the soup. The spring rolls are really good too. Prices are very reasonable and the portions are some of the largest I have ever seen in a Vietnamese restaurant. The service is always done with a smile and everything is noticeably clean and tidy, which makes you feel really good about eating there. If you haven't tried Vietnamese soup, or if you are a big fan, this is the place for you! "

"Pretty good Vietnamese cuisine"

June 2011 — "Saigon Y2K is located in the middle of Chinatown on Centre Ave in Calgary and offers up a good selection of fine Vietnamese cuisine. It can be very busy during the lunch hour during the weekdays due to the many offices in its surrounding area so make sure to call in for a reservation if you plan on visiting. There is plenty of seating especially for a Vietnamese restaurant and the service is quite speedy. Pho is great for cold winter days and just as good in the summer. The fare is pretty typical for Vietnamese cuisine including pho noodles, vermicelli bowls, and various rice bowls. Their spring rolls were also very good. I prefer the location because of its proximity to where I work and the service is always friendly. There isn't anything too special about the food that sets it apart from other Vietnamese places but it's good if you're in the mood for some noodles."

"Always the best Vietnamese!"

October 2010 — "Saigon Y2K is an old faithful of mine when it comes to Vietnamese in Calgary. I can't say that I have ever been disappointed with the food. However, I do prefer the Banff Trail location to the one in China Town. My sister and I went last week and I decided to try something I have never had before. I had item #101 with crispy noodles. The other option was to have the noodles soft. I was extremely pleased with my menu choice! The bed of noodles were dry and crispy with a delicious sauce over top. The noodles softened as you mixed them into the sauce, which was very much like a gravy. The whole thing was topped with fresh vegetables, beef, chicken, and a few prawns! DELICIOUS! I also had the taro root bubble tea which was very tasty as well! The service at Saigon is always quick and efficient and the food portions are always more than enough. This restaurant is great for someone experiencing Vietnamese for the first time or for someone who loves Vietnamese and is looking for great food! The value, quality and service are all there! "

"Quick, Filling and Delicious"

November 2009 — "Saigon Y2K is often really crowded at lunch time - there is almost always a line-up during lunchtime but its worth it. A friend and I always go to the one across McMahon Stadium. We arrive, wait, sit down and order. The waiter/waitress often brings in the food within 5 minutes of the order (quick!). We always like to order the deluxe beef combo for soup noodles, which has beef slices, tripe, tendon, beef balls and a lot of noodles. As well, we share the plate of vermicelli with different types of sausage meats provided with rice paper to wrap them up with vegetables. Both are delicious and we order them almost every time we go. As well, the prices are reasonable and we always leave full with a doggie bag. "

"No to Y2k"

August 2009 — "You know that feeling of craving something and you can’t wait to sink your mouth into your food type of feeling? Well, Saigon Y2K has been on my mind for the last couple of days and I finally gave into the temptation. Since I was around the University, I made a stop by the restaurant on Crowchild, found right across from McMahon Stadium. Their Satay beef noodle is usually my top pick and it was no exception today. Still good, but I was less than disappointed by the service I received. I guess it is just one of those places where the food is pretty good, but it is expected that you are in and then out. And it really felt this way today, as I sat down to a lukewarm bowl of noodle soup. Even though the taste was alright, the servers didn’t so much as acknowledge me to sit down or see how my meal was or even bring me the bill. And it’s not even that it was a full house, especially in comparison to the ratio of servers. It was definitely a disappointing experience. So for next time, you can count me out for this establishment. "

"Saigon Y2K - Lives up to the Hype"

July 2009 — "My boyfriend and I decided to try Y2K one rainy evening last week. Our friends had always raved about this place but we had yet to try it. My first impression was nothing to write home about. The restaurant is sparsely decorated with a few Asian wall hangings and a Gold Buddha statue by the front counter. We were greeted with friendly smiles and quickly shown to our table. We ordered some salad rolls to start and they arrived in the blink of an eye. They were very fresh and disappeared almost as fast as they appeared. For my entree I ordered the Spicy Seafood Satay soup. Served in a huge bowl with a side of bean sprouts I wondered how I would ever come close to finishing. The broth was delicious. A little spicy but with a hint of coconut to mellow it out. Large shrimp, squid and scallops as well as a hearty amount of noodles made this soup a filling meal. I did my best to get to the bottom of my bowl, but there was just to much food. My boyfriend was equally impressed with his large noodle bowl with satay beef, grilled shrimp, chicken and spring rolls. One humorous quirk worth mentioning: This is the only place I've been to where Christmas music is played in July. Oh well the food was fantastic and we will be back. With bells on."

"Good food, good price"

January 2009 — "Went for lunch with my husband and son the other day and had a great meal. The service was friendly and the place was busy. We had to wait a few minutes to be seated, but the staff was very good and making sure that we knew they were doing their best at getting us seated. Very fast to get our food. Very child friendly restaurant. Good food and good prices. I would recommend this for a nice casual lunch with friends (maybe not formal enough for a business lunch)."

"Great food at Macleod location."
Image

Save Review

September 2008 — "i have read a couple reviews about saigon y2k and it's all about the crowchild location but that doesn't mean all locations are like that. i think that that Macleod location across from chinook and connected to the same building as spence diamonds, is pretty good. my family usually go there at least 4 times a month. the food there is great, espeacially the satay beef/chicken/seafood noodle soup. My husband usually orders the 94 (curry chicken) and he said it's the same great taste everytime. my kids loves the vermicelli they have there especially the 46 (chicken) or if they feel for a combination of things they order 48 which has chicken, swrimp and beef. They meals are perfect size and the dishes look great. also, their salad rolls are great and with the peanut sauce just delicious. yumm The service there is pretty good compared to a lot of other vietnamese restaurants out there. i go there so often that one of the waitress there knows my order off by heart. but sometimes when it's busy they seem to rush things and are a bit rude but i can understand, there are other people there that need their food in a rush. the food usually comes out in about 5-10 mins even less sometimes so not that long of a wait. i recommend anytime you drop by chinook or somewhere near there drop in and have a try if you have not already. maybe the other locations gave you a bad impression of the name saigon y2k but i think this location is pretty good. Tip: if you have a big group of people i suggest you call in for a reservation or else the place is pretty packed on sundays and saturday evenings. "

"Fine"

May 2008 — "By no means is Saigon Y2K the best Vietnamese restaurant in town, but it is decent enough. For the days you want a quick dinner, nearby, Saigon Y2K does the trick. The food and service is fine. They have relatively nice decor and the food is fairly cheap. Nothing to rave about, but certainly nothing to complain about either."

"Nose Hair Chicken Curry."
Image

Save Review

May 2008 — "As seen in my review from last year, this WAS "my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Northwest Calgary." Having gone several times in the last few months, I cannot make this claim anymore. Their service is still quick, and upon ordering, the food only takes 5 to 10 minutes preparation time. What disappoints me is the decline in the food quality. The dishes seem greasier, and the portion sizes have gotten so large that they are unappetizing and unappealing. The large bowl of Lemon Grass Chicken contains almost enough food for a family of four. I wish my only complaints were the ones above. Those, I could deal with. What made me decide not to eat at this restaurant again was the lucky findings of 5 short black hairs, either eyelashes or nose hairs, in my cousin's chicken curry dish.......After this, I decided it was time to find a new favorite Vietnamese restaurant. "will not go again"

August 2007 — "I went to the one on Crowchild Trail a number of times. I never liked their service. Most of the time I have to wait a long time before someone will take me to a table even when they are not busy. Their servers did their minimum required, that is, to take your order and give you your order. No expression of friendliness. These are minor imperfections I can tolerate. I went again last night with my husband. We were taken to a tiny table placed in a tight corner of the restaurant. It's a tiny corner that may be good enough for a decorative plant, not for a table. While half of the restaurant was empty, we politely requested another table. The server (he looks like the manager or the owner) refused and continued on with his own work. I can't imagine someone in the food serving industry will have such an attidude toward their customers. We are paying, NOT BEGGING, for their service. We don't expect them to treat us like Kings and Queens but at least they should be polite. Of course, we turned around and left. I don't think I'll ever go again and I don't think they care at all !"

"Awesome Food at an Awesome Price!"

May 2007 — "I regularly go out for Vietnamese food and have gone to this Vietnamese restaurant numerous times, and continue to go back. It gets very busy over the lunch hour so I recommend making reservations or going before noon. If you do go at the busy time, they are usually quick to get you a table, (it just means standing in a crowded doorway for about 10 minutes). The service here has always been reasonable. The food comes quickly and the servers do not pester you with questions about your food or how you are doing. I think the food here is great! Of all the Vietnamese restaurants in the Northwest I think it is the best. I usually get the “regular,” number 49, which consists of rice vermicelli, pork, veggies and baby spring rolls. Great appetizers include the salad rolls (which come with yummy peanut sauce) and the beef skewers. To top off the meal you get my favourite coffee-flavoured candies… It is almost worth it to go just for them! The price of food is a great deal. All the meals cost under $10.00. This is definitely a place to go if you love Vietnamese food or if you are looking for a healthy fresh alternative to Chinese food. There are two locations in Calgary. One is located in Northwest Calgary on Crowchild Trail, and the other is located in Chinatown. "
