"Get ready to eat raw dough!!"

October 2010 — "Our pizzas were undercooked... the dough was raw and the cheese unmelted. Blah. We had seats at the cooking bar and were very entertained by a line of super-efficient and hardworking cooks. We were most interested in this super-oven!! Haven't seen anything like it. I think maybe someone missed a beat on our order. I dunno. We couldn't see a timer or temp control. Strictly eyeball quality control on a hugely busy Friday night. It just didn't work out. While we didn't mind leaving our seats to order wine and beer at the takeout counter initially - but when we wanted another round - it seemed not OK to have to wait in line at the counter while the pizza was getting cold. Anyways - we won't be back and won't recommend."

Management Response:
"Hi Rick, First off, let me apologise for your dining experience at Famoso. There is no excuse for serving poor food or offering poor service; that is a recipe for disaster! It sounds like we failed to explain both our pizza and service so here is some information on both. Our standard is to serve Authentic Neapolitan Pizza. We import ‘00’ flour from Naples Italy, Campania region tomatoes and use fresh 'Fior di Latte' mozzarella (large bocconcini). The hand pressed pizzas are stretched to 11-12" diameter, cooked in 90 seconds. The finished product has a outer crust of 1" and the inner crust is credit card thin. The focus of Neapolitan Pizza is quality over quantity. Our unique Fast Casual service style is meant to allow the guest to choose their dining experience. You seat yourself, order at the counter when ready then are served the rest of the way. This allows the guest to pay right away and have a quick meal, or to leave a tab open and order extras along the way. You should never have to get in line after your initial order. I'd love to have you back for us to have the chance to redeem ourselves. Can you email me your mailing address to info@famoso.ca and I'll send you some promotional gc's so the meal is on us? Thank you for the feedback, we appreciate anything that will make us better. Jason Allard COO Famoso Neapolitan Pizzeria www.famoso.ca "

September 2010 — "My friends and I met here for lunch for some speciality pizzas. They’re thin crust and have the fancier than usual toppings, so not just the typical pepperoni and cheese. Between the 4 of us, we ordered 3 pizzas to share and it was just perfect. Each pizza is around $15 and between the 4 of us, the total was $10 which was a great deal. We ordered the San Andreas, Sweet BBQ chicken, and just a regular Pepperoni and roasted mushrooms. The sweet BBQ chicken was my favourite. The sauce was tangy and sweet and the chicken soft. The San Andreas was different and a close second. I really liked the avocado. The husband’s never been so I think I’ll tell him to try it out when I get back into town in Calgary. Hopefully it will be the same level of quality as the one one I visited here."

"Pizza Fushion, Eat 'em while thier Hot"

August 2010 — "On my most recent visit to Edmonton, a friend took us to Famoso’s for pizza. She was raving of the yummy crust and the lightness of this everyday food. I was definitely skeptical at first, but once I had it, I was very impressed and could definitely think about getting on board the pizza train. We were pretty hungry and ordered for 5 girls and a 3 year old, three pizzas – the BBQ Chicken, the pepperoni and mushroom, as well as the top chef, Ryan Warden’s creation, the San Andreas. It may have been the state of our stomachs, but I thought the pizzas were very tasty and when freshly made, the crust was very light and brought something different to this old fashioned Italian dish. Of the 3, I think the BBQ Chicken was unanimously proclaimed the favourite choice. The top chef contender didn’t really have that much flavour and the drilled cream or what I thought way mayo at the time didn’t add anything to the dish, except empty calories. That was my disappointment, but the experience and the food was very good. "

"Decent but not Fabulous"

September 2009 — "The ingredients are fresh, the crust is adequate, but the price is more than what I would pay for a pizza at a non full service restaurant. Depending on the time you enter Famoso’s Pizzeria, you may be waiting in line anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes to place your order at the counter. The service style may seem slightly confusing as some customers find a seat first, as opposed to placing their order when they first walk in. Incorrect orders can end up at your table due to this confusion, but the organized chaos very quickly resolves itself. The ingredients taste unmistakably fresh whether it is mozzarella or cherry tomatoes, but I find the crust itself could be more thoroughly cooked at the center. Overall the pizza is tasty, but at $13 each I expect service to be included in that price."

March 2009 — "Famoso Neopolitan Pizzeria is located on Jasper Avenue near Edmonton’s downtown. It’s a casual restaurant that serves a great variety of authentic thin crust Italian pizzas, as well as import beer and authentic Italian desserts. The tiramisu is great, though disappointingly amaretto free. Although it’s a cafeteria-style restaurant and there is often a wait, the service is always fast and friendly. I’ve always ordered the Cappricciosa with ham, olives, artichokes, and mushrooms, and I’ve never been disappointed. As is the tradition, the pizzas are pretty small and light on the toppings compared to North American standards. But they’re very inexpensive so order an extra and you can take home the leftovers if there are any. It’s a lively atmosphere and suitable for small or large parties. It really is a taste of authentic Italy, down to the art on the walls and the music on the stereo. Certainly worth any wait!"

January 2008 — "Finally, a pizzeria worthy of the name. If you have ever been to Italy, you know this is the closest thing we have in Edmonton to the real thing. Excellent food, excellent coffee. Our family will be back."

November 2007 — "We were told it is the best authentic Neapolitan pizza in Edmonton. Undercooked dough, bland sauce and very few tastless overpriced toppings is not authentic Neopolitan pizza. 1 very small pizza and 2 italian soda's should not cost $33.00."

"That's good pizza..."

August 2007 — "We were looking for somehting different last night and happened to drive past this little pizza place. Having heard good things, we went in. The dining room is pretty small, but with nice decore. I ordered a veggie pizza with white sauce. It was about 11" - pretty big for one - with artichoke hearts, olives, peppers, cheese...so good. My husband ordered a sandwich, it was tasty and filling. The only complaint was the dough was uncooked in a few places. We saw the salads being oredered by others and they looked fantastic. We will for sure be back to try more items off the menu."

"Delisciouso!"

Save Review

June 2007 — "This is not your regular greasy pizza joint. The four of us ordered four pizzas and shared--no left overs! The crust was amazing and the toppings fresh and so tasty. They have both red (with tomato sauce) and white (without) pizzas, we tried both and you should too. The boys had coffee and biscotti for dessert and the girls shared tiramisu which was the only disappointment. For $6 I was hoping for more--it was deliscious but the portion was so tiny. We shouldn't have shared. All in all, I will definitely be back and I encourage everyone to check it out. "

June 2007 — "I had a very enjoyable meal and got to try some interesting food. The salads are great, the pizzas are thin-crust, and the service is great. We can see exactly what was put on our food, and some parts, like working the dough, was done in style! 8/10 For Me!"
