"Great fried chicken and french fries"

August 2011 — "We were looking for a quick easy meal and were craving some fried chicken. However, we didn’t want KFC as it’s too greasy. So naturally, we ended up at Chicken on the Way. For around $11, you get 5 or 6 pieces of chicken, some thick cut fries, a corn fritter and you have yourself a meal. I honestly didn’t understand the hype until I tried it. It was just so much more authentic in terms of fried food. Granted, with fried food, it will still be oily, but nowhere near what other competitors have. I loved the fries too, as they were thick and had more potato filling in the middle. I’m not a fan of corn fritters but hey, everything else made up for it. They’re quick and efficient and get your food fast so I was really pleased about that. No doubt that we will be back again. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or not though..."

"A Guilty Pleasure"

June 2011 — "Chicken on the Way opened up a new location in the Southview/Forest Lawn area this past year and, living nearby, I decided to try it out. The location is convenient and I found it very clean. The setup is similar to the Kensington location, but perhaps slightly bigger and newer. The service is very efficient and I found the people working there to be very friendly. I got the box with chicken, fries, corn fritters and gravy. True to form, the chicken was deep fried deliciousness. I love the corn fritters. I'm not sure how I feel about the french fries. They do taste fairly home made, however, I find them a bit limp and soggy. I prefer my fries crispy. Overall, I would say the food and service was consistent with what I have come to expect from Chicken on the Way. It's certainly not somewhere I eat often, but once in a while it's good for a guilty pleasure."

"Flavourful fried chicken"

June 2011 — "Chicken on the Way has long been a staple in Calgary's fast food scene and has probably been around for longer than I have. It has the same retro style and flair of another Calgary landmark, Peter's Drive In. It offers freshly deep fried chicken along with multiple choices of sides, gravy, and those fantastic biscuits. The only words I can use to describe their famous concoctions is delicious and greasy. It is definitely something that you want to eat on a regular basis for your heart's sake but it definitely satisfies a fast food craving every once in a while. It is located on the west end of 14th Avenue in the Kensington district and its huge sign is hard to miss. There really isn't a place to dine in except during the summer time there are benches just outside where you can dig into your bucket of chicken."

"Mmmmmm Chicken"

April 2011 — "While visiting my old stomping grounds I had to stop and get the one thing I had been craving since I left Calgary, Chicken from the little yellow restaurant “Chicken on the way”. I ordered me up a Hungry Man Dinner which includes 5 pieces of chicken, French fries (Home Cut), two Corn Fritters, Gravy and a dinner roll all for about $11.00. The Corn fritters are a favorite of my wife’s, and when she is with me I always order a few more, but you have to get some honey to dip them in, it makes them even better. The chicken is a lot less greasy than their counter part KFC, but what is fried chicken without a little grease. The place remains unchanged for many years now and it’s like going to visit an old friend every time I stop by there. The servers are amazingly fast and efficient and the food is always hot and cooked fresh. I look forward to my next trip to Calgary so I can stop and once again visit my old friend in the bright yellow box and the brown wrapping paper."

March 2011 — "On fourteenth street northwest, close to kensington lies a place where kfc would be worried if more of these "chicken on the way" locations popped up more and more in the city. But having said that there is only one location where chicken on the way resides. Its always busy, yet you don't wait long to receive some of the best fried chicken in town. They always have a special going on and its more than worth it.They have great fries, and the chicken is crunchy and tender. The workers are friendly and yet straight on business to get your chicken in a matter of minutes. You can tell they clean their fryers, the chicken always has that golden look to it.The prices are phenomenal, and the taste is flawless. And hey, minimal grease so you don't get too dirty as well, they thought of everything.you can't miss it ,just look for the over sized chicken and the little feud of cars. In my opinion they should open a second location. Because the food is just incomparable.Try them today!."

"Blast from the Past"

December 2009 — "Do I want to know what the kitchen looks like behind that counter? No. Do I want to know how long those cut potatoes have been sitting out beside the deep-fryer. No. Do I wish the food at Chicken on the Way was healthy enough to eat on a consistent basis. Yes. Yes I do. When it comes to good, locally owned fast-food, Chicken on the Way is right up there with Peter's Drive-In, both in terms of quality and service. As usual, last time I was there, I picked up a half-chicken meal. The chicken was supremely crispy on the outside, and hot and succulent on the inside. The fries were fresh (which can sometimes be an issue), and the corn-fritter was as good as I'm sure they were in the fifties. If you've never been to Chicken on the Way, give it a chance at least once. Delicious."

"Always So Good"

May 2009 — "I am a huge fan of Chicken on the Way. Whenever I feel like having some wholesome fried chicken, that's where we head. This family-owned business has been around for years and offers a take-out counter. Known for its fried chicken, it is also a popular place for corn fritters. I personally do not like them, but I know many people that love them. When we go to Chicken on the Way, we usually go elsewhere and pick up some salads to accompany the chicken. On this particular occasion we decided to order just an 8 piece chicken pack. My wife went up to the counter to order it and she was seriously in there for over 20 minutes. I guess they had just put the chicken in the oven. When she was waiting she apparently got to experience the young staff goofing around the entire time, which she thought became a bit annoying. About 15 people also got in line while she was waiting and only a few people were deterred from the long wait. I must say that the wait was worth it. The chicken was so tasty and juicy and not at all fatty. Wow! I will definitely keep getting my fried chicken from Chicken on the Way."

December 2008 — "We always drive past Chicken on the Way and the other day we finally decided to try it. The meal we ordered came with five pieces of chicken, two corn fritters, fries and gravy. Their fried chicken was okay, although I would probably say that KFC's has more flavour. However, I really liked their corn fritters and gravy. Their gravy was flavourful and thick. Perfect for dipping fries into. Also, the service was fast. We had our meal in a matter of minutes. "
