August 2011 — "This was a new sushi/Japanese restaurant for us that we tried, and was recommended by a friend. They have a good selection of lunch options to choose from - both sushi and cooked items. I ordered the stir-fried beef with rice and is was very good. My husband ordered the sushi, and he was happy with his choice. The restaurant is not very fancy, and doesn't look that great from the outside, but the inside seems clean. The service was good, and they give you Rockets (the candy)with you bill. We like this place and have gone back since."

July 2009 — "I've been told that this is the most authentic of authentic sushi places in Calgary, so a friend and I made a stop to check it out about a month ago. Its a cozy little restaurant on Centre Street with some parking in the front. The waiters and waitresses were well mannered and helpful, but the selection of dishes were rather limited and a bit pricey. We ordered a couple of rolls and some tea and sat patiently for our food. As we watched the booths fill up with people, our food came a while after. The spicy tuna rolls were good and my friend's tuna belly hand cone seemed to be extremely appetizing. The cone was filled to the rim with tuna and our assortment of sushi - salmon, eel, scallop, was alright, but I didn't think it was anything special. It was something different but I am still not sure if it left a lasting impression on me or anything. By the end, our wallets were lighter but it didn't really seem to make much of a dent in our stomachs. I don't know if I would go there again. Maybe if you just wanted to snack and you don't mind the cost, but I think there are other places that are better and more appeasing. "

June 2009 — "I recently went to Wa’s for Sunday lunch with my family. This location is very convenient. The atmosphere is nice and the servers are really friendly. The best part is that it’s Japanese owned and operated. I ordered a tempura udon, yakiniku lunch and a bunch of sushi (to share). The udon was great as usual. The yakiniku has gone downhill and the sushi was just so-so (edible). We had the rainbow roll, tuna roll, and a bunch of salmon, shrimp, and tuna sushi. The pieces were a bit small and skimpy and the after taste is fishier than normal. The yakiniku was dry. I think the best part was the miso soup, which always comes nice and hot. The prices were average. I don’t recommend this place if you’re a big Japanese food fan and eat it almost daily (this place won’t satisfy you). Otherwise, I think this restaurant will satisfy most Japanese food seekers and is worth a visit. "

April 2009 — "Since moving back to Calgary after living in Japan for 2.5 years I've been trying a lot of Japanese restaurants. Wa's is expensive yet is the most authentic I've been able to find. This may not suit everyone (most people want dynamite rolls and other north american versions of sushi), but if your looking for actual Japanese food this is a good place. Plus their waitresses are Japanese and understand Japanese, which makes ordering a lot easier."

March 2007 — "I've heard so many good things about Wa's Japanese Restaurant I had to check it out. This was my first time having sushi and I was really impressed. The sashimi was fresh and delicate and the yam tempura was light and crunchy. Another star dish is the smoked eel roll, which was flavourful and satisfying. The place was packed so reservations are a good idea, especially on weekends. Although the decor was average, the service was very friendly and prompt.
