November 2008 — "I have been in banff since 2000 and have been having breaky at cougar pete's since 2003, I still can't understand why this place hasn't taken off, the breaky is amazing, everyone i've taken there or recommened too has loved it as well, all meals there are good, the quality of food used is top notch, club house sandwiches use real chicken breast (yes at the hostel). I think people are under the perception that the Banff Alpine Centre is some kind of shelter, well it's not it is one of the top ten backpacker hotels in the world, and everyone should try it, it's fun, the atmosphere is great, the staff is friendly and helpful, food should be made with love, that's why mom's tasted so good and it's also why the hostels tastes just as good."

August 2007 — "After spending the night at the incredibly impressive HI - Banff Alpine Centre hostel, we decided to eat breakfast at the hostel's restaurant before heading home. First of all, we were impressed by the relatively cheap prices (sure we were at a hostel but we were in pricey Banff afterall). The menu was full of all the typical breakfast favourites like eggs prepared how you like them, bacon and sausages, sides of toast and more. I opted to try a stack of pancakes, which isn't my normal breakfast choice, but I thought I'd give them a shot. I was almost shocked by the size of the plate and the pancakes that I was served. They were huge! I could have just had 1 they were so huge, but there were 3 on the plate. I did my best to put a dent in them but still had lots left over. They were great pancakes, cooked just right. My only complaint was that I didn't get enough syrup as the amount provided was barely enough for a single cake (although I do like lots of syrup). We got our food very quickly, which was nice since we were quite hungry. Cougar Pete's, which also serves lunch and dinner, features a large patio. It was too cold out to sit outside that morning but it looks like a great place to enjoy a meal in the mountains."
