May 2009 — "The Rusty Pelican is my sister's favourite restaurant in Red Deer so I was curious to see why. When I first walked into the Rusty Pelican with her I immediately liked the setting. The restaurant has an outdoor feel to it with large umbrellas and an abundance of green plants neatly placed around the dining area. The Rusty Pelican would probably be a wonderful place to go to on a cold winter day with the tropical atmosphere it gives off. We did not have to wait long for a table and were seated in a comfortable booth. The menu had quite a few choices, which I thought were decently priced. I ordered the pot stickers ($8.95) as an appetizer and the chicken tenders ($8.25) with mashed potatoes as my main dish. I found the pot stickers tasty and a great appetizer to share. The chicken tenders were nicely battered and the mashed potatoes were absolutely delicious. Overall, I approved with my sister's choice of a good place to dine in Red Deer."

January 2009 — "After 3.5 years of living in Red Deer, I finally convinced my husband to try the Rusty Pelican. OMG! The waitress was FAB - that's as far as it goes. My husband ordered a WELL DONE prime rib. It was rare and fatty so back to the kitchen it went. I had half eaten my luke warm stuffed sole by the time the rib reappeared. It was now medium rare and seeing as it was the same chunk of meat it was still fatty. Inedible! My husbands appetite was ruined and the prime rib returned to the kitchen. Our evening was ruined and nobody apart from the poor waitress cared at all. A very expensive evening and we will not darken the doorstep again."

January 2009 — "This is a restaurant with lots of atmosphere, relatively good food and very good service. They must have recently undergone a menu change because I found they had a wide variety of dishes instead of the majority of seafood dishes that I remembered. We stopped in for lunch recently and were very impressed with their lunch time menu. They had a selection of dishes which included pasta, chicken, fish and even baby liver all for around $10 a plate. If you can't find anything that tempts you on that menu there is also the main menu dishes to choose from. Our waitress was fast and efficient and we didn't have to wait long for our meals to arrive - a bonus if you're pressed for time and need to head back to the office.
The Rusty Pelican is eclectic on the inside and you'll find yourself admiring some of the vintage decor items they have on display. It's a warm and welcoming spot day or night."

September 2008 — "One evening in September, we were meeting a group for a surprise birthday dinner at The Rusty Pelican. This restaurant was easy to find especially because we drove in on the highway from Calgary. Upon entering the restaurant, to your left is a lounge and bar area and the right side opens up to the dining area. There are lots of tables and the ceiling is very high so this gives the illusion of even greater space. The décor is rustic yet interesting because there are so many items to keep your eyes busy. The menu is quite extensive and I opted for the Prime Ribs of Beef. The meal was delicious and prepared as requested. I especially enjoyed the large portion of yorkshire pudding! One of our dinner guests ordered the same dinner and was disappointed that he only got four small roasted potatoes with his dinner. I volunteered one of my six potatoes to even things out. The server was friendly and kept up with all the demands of a large party. I would definitely visit this restaurant again when I am in Red Deer."
