March 2012 — "I took my girlfriend for lunch to Jack Astors. I think it's a really good restaurant, although my meal wasn't great. From the service we received, it was obvious that they pride themselves on great customer service and on making sure their customers really enjoy their meal. The ceasars were on special for $4.99. I ordered mine spicy. It was really good. It came with pickled asparagus and a huge, cold prawn on the side of the glass. To start, we had the garlic cheese bread. It was served in a cast iron skillet and covered in melted cheese and tons of hot butter with fresh garlic. I recommend it. I ordered the club sandwich and was quite disappointed. It was served on focaccia bread and was quite dry. The vegetables inside weren't very fresh and I was quite turned off by the whole thing. I only ate half. I took the other half home but couldn't even bring myself to eat it. I think it was probably a one off though as everything else was great and my girfriend really enjoyed her meal. Try the burger, skip the club. "

"Great Burger!"

March 2012 — "We went to Jack Astor’s on Southland and Macleod for a Sunday afternoon lunch. We were seated in the lounge, and I immediately liked the atmosphere. They had these really cool chandeliers made entirely of corona and Jose Cuervo bottles! They have a subtle yet effective split setup between the family restaurant side and the lounge. Our server was quite involved with our dining experience and we had two other people check on us throughout our meal. I appreciated the effort, but thought it was a bit over the top. I ordered a pint of Canadian, which I found wasn’t quite cold enough. My meal was the Smokey Jack burger, and honestly, I was very impressed. The burger came piled so high I wasn’t even sure how I was going to eat it! The onion straws definitely made it extra delicious paired with the generous serving of bacon. The fries were a bit salty, but good, and were served in a little metal bowl alongside the burger. At just under $15, I thought it was a bit pricey, but since it was so good, I won’t complain! "

"New Renovations a Hit!"

October 2011 — "Have you been to check out the new facelift at Jack Astors in SW Calgary? Jack Astors has been a favorite of mine for years, and probably will for years to come. Recently they have undergone major renovations inside. My wife and I did not know and haven't gone out to eat there for over a year. So we decided it was time. Jack Astors is a fun, hip family friendly restaurant where anything goes! The menu has a variety of different foods, that is sure to please anyone who loves to eat. They have really stepped up their game now inside, everywhere you look is something to catch your attention. Its a fun place to go with a big group! Great specials, beers on tap and friendly service. The table cloths are just paper, and you can draw all over them while you are sitting at your table which is one of my daughters favorite things. "

"Pleasantly Surprised"

August 2010 — "I hadn't been to Jack Astor's in years, probably about 8, because I wasn't a big fan of it when I last went. I didn't like how the server brought you a piece of parchment paper to draw on, and how family-oriented it was. However, I was in the area and decided to give it another chance. When we walked in we were greeted immediately by about 5 staff members... they offered us a table in the restaurant, bar or on the patio. Seeing as it as a smoking hot day, we chose to sit on the patio. It was nearly empty even though the bar was quite busy! Made no sense to me at all, but it was nice to have some privacy. When we walked through the bar I was shocked by how it had changed. I think they must have done some renovations over the years, because it seemed like an adult type of place now. Our server was very efficient and friendly... she checked on us multiple times and even suggested some menu items. I chose to have the Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich with Caesar Salad. The sandwich itself was very good, the Caesar had just a little too much dressing for my liking. My wife had the beef fajitas with jalepeno sauce. I got the chance to make my own fajita and it was delicious, although it was very spicy and my mouth burnt for quite awhile. Overall, I found that Jack Astor's exceeded my expectations... it was good, the service was great and the food was definitely better than it was in the past. I think we'll be back!"

"Unique place for good food"

September 2009 — "I really like Jack Astors. It's a bit far from where I live but really worth the drive. The food is as good as any steak house but with a lot of fun added. The entire place is decorated with cartoon drawings with jokes and other funny stuff. As well as every table is covered with brown paper with a set of crayons for you to draw on. It's a lot of fun to be able to draw on the table with your friends while you're waiting for your food, especially if you have young kids with you. They have anything from steads to pizza and a small chinese food selection too. But the one and only must have thing there is their cheese and garlic pan bread. It's definitely the best I've ever had anywhere. It used to be free all you can eat. But now it's around $5 a pan enough for 4. Other than that the prices are reasonable for great food and most of all a fun experience."

"Best garlic bread anywhere"

August 2009 — "Jack Astor's has, by far, the best garlic bread I have ever had. It comes served in a pan, dripping in garlic butter and cheese. It costs about $8, but it's a good portion and definitely worth every cent. And you can add it to your entree for a couple of bucks. Their chicken parmesan is very tasty ($14) and the garlic bread went perfectly with it. My girlfriend ordered the chicken tenders ($12), which came in a fresh, light batter, well seasoned. They tasted fresh and nothing like chicken tenders you'd find in most chain restaurants. I like the atmosphere, even if it is intentionally tacky. The servers all have cute sayings on their shirts and there is a lot of structures in the place made with beer bottles. Our server was diligent and quick and the food was great. This place is different than any other chain and if you've never been, I recommend it. Something just tastes fresh about all their food. The prices are fair too (between $12 and $18 for most dinner entrees). And that pan garlic and cheese bread.......that's worth the trip by itself."
