September 2011 — "The Dakota Bar and Grill is centrally located on the Stephen Ave Mall in downtown Calgary. The best thing it has going for it is the prime location. Situated right in between two of the more popular restaurants are the Met Bar and Grill to its west and the always busy Unicorn Pub on its east the Dakota Grill is not quite as popular but on a hot summer day it can also get a fair share of customers. One of the reasons Dakotas Bar and Grill is not as popular as some of its neighbors is that it does not cater to any particular crowd. Where as the Met Grill is catered towards more of an upscale business crowd and the Unicorn is a bit more blue collar and casual setting. The Dakota lacks a strong identity although the drinks and food are much the same as the other two restaurants. There are happy hour specials and the food is pretty good."

February 2011 — "Dakota's is located on Stephen Avenue in the heart of downtown. It's a bit dark inside and I wouldn't really call it classy by any means, but the food is good and so is the service. It's one of the places downtown you know you will be able to get a table without reservations during lunch hour. The menu is pretty big and there is plenty to choose from. Their salads are huge and meal sized with tons of ingredients. Last time I went, I had the halibut beer battered fish and chips, which was fantastic. Fish and chips can be hit or miss in this city and Dakota's was great! The fish was really good quality with a delicious batter fried to a golden perfection. The big serving of fries on the side made the meal. The service is friendly and efficient and there's really not much to complain about. Check it out!

"Great food, GREAT service! "

August 2010 — "If you are looking for really good food, friendly service and a price range that fits the value of the food and experience, Dakota's is a great choice! We went for lunch and were greeted immediately and seated promptly. Our server was friendly and happy and we all liked her right away. Drinks came quickly followed by our food. The menu has plenty of choices to suit anyone's appetite. Everyone was extremely pleased with their choices as the quality was great and the portions were very generous.
I really liked the atmosphere, and the staff were a huge part of that. They were all laid back and friendly, but also very efficient and professional. The service as well as the food definitely couldn't have been better! The washrooms were a bit untidy but it was during lunch, which is surely one of their busiest times of day. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants great food in a friendly pub-like environment. "

"Overpriced but Decent"

July 2010 — "I met a friend for lunch at Dakota one day. I was surprised upon entering that a restaurant in the middle of the bustling Stephen Avenue would be so empty at lunch. When I took a look at the menu, a few dishes looked very appealing but I thought they looked a bit pricey. I was torn between the Dakota Wrap and the Chicken Tikka Quesadilla so I asked our server, who couldn't offer an opinion because she's vegetarian and hadn't tried either of them. I went with the quesadilla. It was good, I suppose, but not something I would ever order again, so it wasn't great. And $14.95 seemed too expensive for something so simple. Perhaps something else on the menu would have been better, but everything did seem overpriced.
With the prices set as they are and the food nothing to write home about, I don't think I'll go back to Dakota."

DescriptionThe menu is inspired by the American Southwest at Dakota Bar and Grill, and quesadillas and chipotle steak are both featured items. Daily lunch specials are available, and happy hour specials are as well. A pool table is located on the premises, and a patio is on the Stephen Avenue Walk. The hours are Monday to Saturday 11 am to 2 am.
