"Decent sandwich"

March 2012 — "While on a business trip in Edmonton, my colleague and I decided to head over to the Sawmill which was within walking distance to where we were working. We arrived at approx. 11:15 am, and were the first people in the restaurant. We obviously had our choice of seating and decided to take a seat in the informal lounge. I was not very hungry and having eaten a large meal the evening before, I decided to have a Reuben Sandwich. My drink consisted of my typical Cranberry and soda. The meal arrived surpringly quickly (within 10 minutes) after placing our order. The sandwich was filled with lots of pastrami meat, and they definitely did not skimp out of that. I had a side order of caesar salad to accompany my meal. The caesar was decent and I would rate about average. The sandwich too was pretty solid. All in all, it was a decent restaurant which I would go to for a quick bite to eat."

"Great Sunday Brunch"

Save Review

April 2009 — "I recently was invited to Sunday brunch at the Sawmill Steakhouse on 170th St. I was very impressed with not only the service but the quality of food at their buffet. Judging from the packed restaurant this place is very popular with Edmontonians. The brunch buffet had a bounty of dishes on offer. They had the usual breakfast items like eggs benedict, bacon and sausage plus omelettes cooked on demand. There was also prime rib, chicken and fish for those who crave lunch more than breakfast at mid day. I highly recommend the poached fish - everyone at our table who took a serving raved about how delicious it was. There is an amazing selection on their salad side - all freshly made and well presented. The desserts were a dream for those with a sweet tooth and there was even a chocolate fountain to enjoy. I thought the meal here was fantastic and will make a point of coming again."

"disappointing New Year's Eve"
Image

Save Review

December 2008 — "Our group had a very disappointing experience. Food seemed to have been prepared in advance and kept under heat lamps in anticipation of a busy evening. Chicken dish tasted as if it was leftover that had been warmed up. Prime rib arrived at the table barely warm and in three cases it was cooked more than requested i.e. rare was medium and medium was well-done. There were numerous other things that by themselves would not have been such a big deal but they just added to the overall negative experience that we had. One water glass was cracked, bread plate was whisked away while diner was still holding bun in her hand, and so on. The wait staff seemed to be overwhelmed; perhaps they were short-staffed that evening. All in all, we were sorry that we chose the Sawmill for our New Year's Eve dinner. We would not recommend this restaurant to friends and we are very very unlikely to return. "

"Great food and history too!"

March 2008 — "The Sawmill in Edmonton(South)is one of several food services the owner has in the city. It has been pleasing customers for many years. It seems quite dark when you enter, but one soon adjusts, and can appreciate the sawmill history displayed throughout the dining room. The room has several dividers and is on two levels, so there is hardly a table or booth where privacy is not available. The business also has a lounge, and outdoor patio. The menu has high quality food choices, with good Alberta beef one of the main features. We chose the dinner buffet, mainly because of time issues. All of the meals, including the buffet at $17.95, are in the more expensive range, but if quality and quantity are important to you, you are never disappointed. The salad buffet includes several hearty meat salads, lots of seafood, dietary dressings, more selections than one could possibly sample,etc.,etc. Our server was attentive and seemed to know just the right time to return to our table."

"Is the Sawmill losing it's touch??"

July 2007 — " My mother went to the downtown Sawmill last Wednesday. I ordered the lobster, and my mother ordered the chicken with seafood. The lobster was small and overcooked. The chicken tasted burnt and tough for chicken breast. The salad bar was not filled up and the selection for a salad bar which you charge $9+ with an entree was not worth it. I was very disappointed. I expected much more. "

"Great Food!"

February 2007 — "We tried out the Sawmill for the first time this past weekend when we were in Edmonton. We dined at the location on 104th Avenue and sat in the pub part. We could order from either the steakhouse menu or the pub menu, meaning there was a very large selection. We got the nachos to start and they were HUGE. They fed six people and we were pretty full after eating them. However, we ordered dinner as well, and I had the beef dip. Pretty typical, but delicious. The Sawmill Logger Beer quenched my thirst. When I'm in Edmonton again, I will probably dine at the Sawmill again. "
