"Great Prime Rib"

February 2011 — "I'm still amazed at the lasting popularity of the Keg. My family and I have been trying to come here for dinner for literally the past month (less because we like the place and more because we had a bunch of gift cards to redeem), and it wasn't until we were in Edmonton that we finally made it happen. I ordered the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. The prime rib was okay, although the combination of a hot plate and what I assume was a little too much time sitting under a hot lamp made what was supposed to be a rare cut into a medium one. The mashed potatoes also suffered from this indiscretion as the top of it was slightly hard and had a shiny "glazed" look to it. While our food may not have been brought to us in a timely fashion, our server was very friendly, and made sure not to rush us, even though we were dining very close to closing time. In the end the fact we were paying for our meal with gift cards, made it acceptable, but the fact is if we were paying out-of-pocket, I would have been somewhat disappointed."

January 2011 — "Okay - simple -- We visited the Keg on 137 Ave - North Edmonton. I ordered the Keg Special .. Keg size 8 oz Sirloin steak .. to put it bluntly ... I couldnt find the steak. It was buried underneath vegetables and potatoes etc. . . When I found the steak I realized why it was buried. It was about the size of about 3 Canadian Toonies taped together. I questioned it with the server and again with the manager. Both agreed that it was an "ok size" So ... Simple ... We ate .. we paid ... we left ... we wont go back. Unfortunately this was one of our favorite restaurants - Always busy ... almost always "good". "

August 2009 — "I recently went to the Keg in Edmonton. The décor was nice and is fairly standard across all locations. We started out with drinks in the lounge as we waited for a table. I ordered a pina colada and it was delicious. We were then taken to our table and were greeted by our waiter. The service was exceptional! Our waiter was extremely pleasant and attentive. When we needed more drinks he was there. We ordered the mushrooms Neptune for an appetizer. It was steaming hot and very good. We also all got the Caesar salad. It was also good, with just the right amount of dressing and freshly shaved parmesan cheese. However, each of us only had one crouton in our salad. We made a joke to our server about a crouton shortage, and he promptly brought us a bowl of croutons. I ordered the prime rib and king crab. The king crab was great! It was well cooked, and I love that they crack the crab in advance for you. The prime rib was moist and flavorful. However, the portion size of the meat was quite small. The prime rib was very thin, as well as approximately twenty percent of it was fat. I wonder though if I hadn’t ordered the prime rib in a combo that perhaps I would have gotten a better cut. All in all, a great experience at the Keg where we received wonderful service. "

July 2008 — "We arrived at 5:30 pm on a Friday and were seated right away by the friendly staff. The service was great. We were actually there for less than hour and that included our eating time! We noticed that other tables were getting bread delivered to their tables so we asked a staff member if all tables get it and she said ‘yes.’ Our waitress seemed to be a bit taken aback that we asked someone else a question. We figured that all tables would get the warm round sourdough bread since there were side plates on the table as we sat down. Our waitress explained that they have to wait sometimes until a fresh batch is brought out of the oven. We understood that, but were surprised that we got our drinks and other tables received the bread before us even though they sat down after us. It all worked out. We enjoyed the warm sourdough bread with butter that melted right into it. I enjoyed the teriyaki chicken which included pineapple salsa and garlic mashed potatoes. These are real mashed potatoes including the peel. They were very creamy and not over-bearing with the garlic taste. The ambience was nice. We sat at a table with benches that was made for 2 people. You don’t see that very often; it’s usually benches for 4 people. "

December 2007 — "The atmosphere at The Keg is pleasant and inviting. The food is reasonably priced, and worth the value in taste alone. The steaks are by far the best That I have tried. The lobster tails are plump and juicy, not to mention, big in size. The drinks were mixed to perfection, and the service is excellent. Overall, I recommend this restaurant to everyone!"

July 2007 — "We had our brother's 50th Birthday Party at the Keg in South Common and the treatment we received from our server Bobbi was outstanding. Not only was the service remarkable, our table of 18 people were all served at the same time with fantastic...hot...delicious meals. The evening was such a success and we appreciate Bobbi's hard work and cheerful attitude. Bobbi's contribution to the evening was above and beyond our expectations and a fabulous time was had by all. Thank-you to The Keg, it's staff and our server...Bobbi. "

May 2007 — "I used to love The Keg, but the last few times we've gone have been severely disappointing. We went for dinner on Friday night, and on the advice of our server, ordered the Rib-eye. He swore up and down it was the best cut of meat, and having never tried it, my husband and I both decided to try his recommendation. It was pretty terrible. Both steaks were FULL of fat, and it was a lot of work to cut around the fat to get to the meat, which also just tasted fatty. For a steak restaurant, which is pretty pricey, it's poor quality of AMERICAN beef is sub-par, compared to what you can get elsewhere. I can say, after giving it a few tries lately, and being disappointed every time, I do not think we will be back any time soon. "
