July 2009 — "Yiannis Greek Taverna is located on Edmonton’s dynamic Whyte Avenue. They have an excellent lunch menu with much appreciated smaller portions and lower prices than the dinner menu. And the food is excellent! I can never decide what to have so usually I force my companions to share a few appetizers instead of ordering an entree. The Saganaki is fabulous but really, where can one really go wrong with baked cheese and brandy? The Keftedes and Dolmades are excellent, served with really great tzatziki. And the Horiatiki salad is also awesome, with big chunks of feta. On other occasions I have splurged and ordered the souvlaki but I found it to be too much food for one person. The food is a little bit pricey, but that seems to be the norm with Greek food and I have never been disappointed. For the same great food but a bit of a different atmosphere, head downstairs to the Kasbar lounge."

"Great little restaurant"

February 2009 — "This has always been one of my favourite spots to dine when I'm in Edmonton. The place is welcoming and food consistently good. On Friday nights they often have belly dancers performing so it's not only a meal but a show too.
I was there recently and ordered my favourites - dolmades for an appetizer and chicken souvlakia for my main course. The dolmades are always delicious. I've ordered this dish in other restaurants and they often come with no meat in them. I'm happy to say the ones served at Yiannis are full of meat and rice and are a good size. Served with tsatziki sauce they are a heavenly dish. The chicken souvlakia is also good. Not dried out like I've experienced in other Greek restaurants. For $17.95 you will get a plateful of food which is a reasonable price these days.
This place gets a little noisy when the music starts but the food and atmosphere are great."

August 2008 — "This restaurant is located on Whyte Ave right beside busy Julio's Barrio. It is an authentic Greek restaurant. The menu contains a number of Greek specialties. In addition to personal size dinner menu options a number of dishes can be ordered for couples, groups of four, and groups of six. By ordering in this style patrons do not have to chose just one item, but can sample an assortment.
When I went to this restaurant one evening in August it was quite busy. The restaurant has a great atmosphere that is quite different from the usual restaurant. The walls were decorated with large colorful murals, enjoyable music was playing in the background, and everyone seemed to be in good spirits.
The food quality was excellent and the portions were just right. It seems that a lot of Greek restaurants serve too large of portions, but not at Yiannis. My halibut dinner contained the right amount of food.
I recommend this restaurant!"
