March 2012 — "Open Range creates an interesting atmosphere from the transformation of a ordinary house into a restaurant. I love the decors and fireplace. The furnitures are close to antique. My company and I tried their famous game platter. This features sample sizes of game meats they serve. I found some of the meats we tried to be similar tasting to one another. They are usually really salty to cover the gamey taste. Also a little bit too chewy for my liking. But I could see how this platter is popular as it isn't overly expensive and you could sample meats that you ordinarily would not find in a grocery store. We tried a wild boar entree and a sirloin entree. The wild boar was so juicy and the meat came apart easily. It was very enjoyable. The wild mushrooms were very earthy and tasty. The pork belly was too greasy for my liking. The sweet potato hash was intersting, good to try. The sirloin entree stuffed with sweet bell pepper and fresh horshradish and a few other interesting ingredients. I was very pleased with our meal today. I would love to come back and try other dihes on their menu. "

"Great atmosphere for a nice dinner"

March 2012 — "I took my girlfriend to Open Range for dinner as she had been wanting to try it for awhile. We had heard from a friend that it was a really nice place for a beautiful dinner out. You instantly feel comfortable and welcome as soon as you walk in. It has a classy feel in a laid back, relaxing environment. It's the perfect combination. We sat in the dining room although I would like to come back and try things out in the lounge. I wasn't all that hungry so I just had the chicken wings with mole sauce, which was completely new to me. It was delicious! The wings were probably the biggest I have ever had! I also ordered a side of gouda scalloped potatoes which came hot and freshly baked in a little dish. They were definitely enough to make a meal out of! I'm a huge fan of scalloped potatoes and these were amazing. The bathrooms were super clean and well maintained. The experience was great. We will be back! "

"Beautiful restaurant!"

March 2012 — "Open Range is located on Edmonton Trail and 11th Avenue NE. It doesn't look like much from the outside and it's easy to drive right by and not even notice. We finally went in to check it out. We loved it! There is a dining side and a lounge side. The decor and atmosphere are that of a cozy mountain lodge in Denver or something. The lounge has a big fireplace with bull horns above it and beautiful big couches for relaxing and drinking wine. The dining room is very warm and cozy and is a great place to enjoy a beautiful, slow dinner. On Thursday nights, they bring in wild game. When we were there, the special was Yak's Shepherd's Pie. I opted for the Beef Tenderloin with chantrelle mushroom ragu and dark truffle gravy. It was served with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. It was so good! I also had a plate of warmed olives to start to go with my glass of red wine. Everything was great! All around a very nice restaurant. "

"Great Bison!"

June 2011 — "I have been to Open Range twice now with my Husband. We love the casual fine-dining atmosphere and menu. The food has been great on both occasions. The first time we went we both had Bison Burgers. Im not crazy on them but my husband is on a kick and he has been trying to get my to get on it with him. I was really suprised. The way they did it up on the BBQ was quite amazing. I wouldnt even mind going back for another. The second time we went I had the Chicken breast with Cranberry Chipotle, mixed veggies and a side Salad. The portion was HUGE. I had to take home more than half. The presentation on the plate is beautiful like someone took their time to care. The service has always been good. Not over the top great but good. We know where to go for good Bison though!!!!! "

"Great night out! "

March 2011 — "I took my wife to Open Range after hearing about it from a number of friends and couple that they have such a good time. The food great, service wonderful. We were both very impressed with the food and service. Really liked the decor as it was the perfect fit for our evening. We had such a great time. The food was just the best. I had a steak, that was cooked to perfection and my wife had the arctic char which she is still raving about. It all combined I was very impressed with the way we were treated by our waitress. She knew when we needed her and left us alone when we were talking , eating, or trying to enjoy our time. We shared a the homemade apple pie for dessert. It was really good. They have a variety of different dishes on their menu, but i would suggest sticking with the steaks or ribs! "

"Very disappointing, will not return or recommend."

August 2007 — "The service was friendly and the drinks excellent, the meals however were lacking in flavour and were poorly cooked. The gazpacho special was good. The corn and roasted jalapeno fritters not edible. The romaine with chipotle pepper and the spinach and herb salads were ordinary and dressingless. The stuffed sirloin with wild rice was overcooked to a toughness of shoe leather. The Alberta Lamb shank was overcooked and accompanied by a polenta the flavour and consistency of day old oatmeal and plaster of paris. No bread was offered, but a side of one baby squash cut in half and six green beans from the farm were set in a side plate to be shared by two. Overall a very unsatisfactory experience for a fairly costly meal for two."

"A Nice Locally-Owned Steakhouse"

July 2007 — "We live near Open Range and finally got around to trying out the restaurant last week. The menu was filled with several steak, lamb and poultry dishes and a daily feature menu was also available. We both opted for the featured appetizer, a tomato gazpacho with cucumber salad. It was very tasty and refreshing. I got the sirloin stuffed with sweet red pepper, horseradish and jalepeno jack cheese sauce. It was pretty good, although a bit dry. My husband loved his lamb. We shared a dessert, the apple crumble. The atmosphere was upscale, yet you can wear jeans. The service was great. We will definitely go back again in the future!"
