August 2010 — "Very disappointed in one of my favorite Thai places in Calgary. Ordered 3 items to pick up tonight ... but when I got home with my dinner, I found Spicy Hut had given me Spring Rolls instead of the Pad Thai I ordered (my favorite thing on the menu). I called back to the restaurant right away, fully expecting Spicy Hut to apologize and fix their mistake. The male who answered the phone passed me to the manager. What the female manager told me on the phone was that I could drive all the way back to the restaurant to pick up the Pad Thai -- and pay the difference for the Pad Thai because it was $7 more than the Spring Rolls they had mistakenly sent me home with. I told the female manager I would come back but did not feel I should pay any difference as it was their mistake -- and I did not want the spring rolls. I think it would have been nice if they had sent a driver down Memorial Drive to bring me the dish I had ordered. I was polite. The manager was not interested. I can find another favorite place. To me, customer service is a pretty basic ingredient for a restaurant. I'm very disappointed in Spicy Hut."

"Excellent Thai"

June 2010 — "Spicy Hut is one of my favorite places in Calgary. I have been visiting for over 15 years and find it very consistent, inexpensive and the Thai food is very flavorful (and can be very spicy). I highly recommend any of their red, green or yellow curry dishes, (meat or vegetable) and I have been trying to duplicate their coconut rice for years (if any knows tell me how!), and I love the tom yum soup. The decor could use a little work and I do not recommend the Peking menu items, (although many are good), I find the Peking items much too sweet for my liking. However... the Peking is a big hit with the kids and wife (who are all very picky eaters). "

"Delicious!"

March 2010 — "Based on recommendations from a few friends, I decided to give Spicy Hut a try and ordered some delivery on a weekend evening. The food arrived within the 30 minute time frame quoted. Everything looked great and was still very hot. The Tom Yum Goong soup I ordered was piping hot. It was delicious and very spicy (enough to give you a heart burn). I also ordered some coconut rice and the Panang Duck Curry (roast duck & eggplant in red curry paste with peanut sauce). I thought the duck sounded good from the menu and it really was. The duck was perfectly cut and not too fatty. The red curry peanut sauce was very tasty. The service was excellent. The person who took my order was really friendly, food came on time, and driver was really nice. I would definitely order again and highly recommend Spicy Hut to anyone looking for some good Asian food. "

"Great food and value!"

February 2010 — "I recently got a flyer from Spicy Hut in the mail and decided to give it a try. I ordered some take-out over the lunch hour, which included some spring rolls, tom yum soup and pad thai noodles. Contrary to what I’ve been hearing about this place, the food was quite good. The soup was really hot even when I got home. The pad thai was good, although I don’t think it’s actually pad thai. It tastes almost exactly like beef ho fan but with shrimp instead of beef. They give you so much pad thai in one order. The spring rolls were a bit too oily for my liking so I would pass on that next time. This little neighborhood restaurant serves semi-authentic food. I think the authenticity will be a hit or miss depending on what you order but the food is decent and definitely worth trying again. "

"Decent Western Chinese and Thai Food"

January 2010 — "Dropped by here last week because my friends and I couldn't decide on whether to go for Chinese or Thai food. Lucky for us Spicy Hut's menu contains a little of both. We weren't in the mood for anything exotic so we stuck to the standards; ginger beef, pad thai, chow mein and curry beef. None of the dishes were particularly memorable, but it was nice being able to sample both ginger beef and pad thai in the same meal. In hindsight we probably should have ordered the tom yum goong, as the table beside us had some and it looked pretty good. Spicy Hut itself has the aesthetic of a run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant; it's clean, but has definitely seen better days. In the end, this is a decent place to head to when you're looking for western-Chinese food AND some Thai, and the price makes it all the more enticing."

"Such delicious Thai food!"

November 2009 — "I have eaten at Spicy Hut for many, many years and it is always such a delicious treat. Everything I have tried has been flavourful and very high quality. On my most recent dining experience, I decided to order delivery. I got the hot and sour soup to start and it was pretty good, not the best I've had, but pretty close. For entrees I ordered the Musamun Beef Curry, which has beef chunks in a Thai curry sauce with potatoes, cauliflower and coconut milk. The beef was so tender and the sauce is to die for. The second entree I ordered was Kang Ka Rhee Gai, which is chicken with pepper, onions, peapods, carrots and baby corn in a mild yellow curry sauce. It too was so delicious. I can't get over the sauces at Spicy Hut, they are spot on. Because my order totaled over $25, i got some free spring rolls. They were perfect too. I am once again very satisfied with my experience and I have sooo many leftovers, it's great!"

"Very good food – delivered!"

August 2009 — "Late night food is sometimes hard to find, especially with this level of quality. It was 10:00 PM on a Saturday night and most restaurants were closed for the night with exception of Pizza joints..etc. We felt like getting some real food and didn’t want to go out for it. So we ordered from Spicy Hut for the first time as we had a menu handy. Since it was delivery, I cant say much for the décor. They are located along Edmonton Trail and the food arrived in under 20 minutes to where I lived (About 2 kms away) We ordered a variety of dishes including the beef curry, cashew chicken, pad thai and ginger fried beef. The food was all very good and very fresh as well. Usually take out food is not the greatest, but Spicy hut has made me reconsider that notion. Along with our food, we also received an order of sweet and sour chicken and fried rice for free for having an order of over $50. Prices were good with most dishes costing around the $10 mark. All in a all a good experience with plenty of food left over to take to lunch the next day."

"Tasty curries"

August 2007 — "I remembered going here a couple of years ago and enjoying it, so when a group of us wanted to meet up for supper it seemed like a good place to return to. The location on Edmonton Trail South, just north of downtown was convenient for everyone too. We were more than impressed with the food! It is a chinese / thai fusion kind of place with most items on the menu being a curry dish of some sort. Each item is marked for its spiciness from "not spicy" through to "SSS - Watch Out"., but although we ordered a mix of spice levels, nothing stood out as being very spicy. Honestly, we didn't care because everything was so flavourful. We started the meal with a light fruit & vegetable salad. At first, it seemed like an odd combination - lettuce, bean sprouts, bananas, tomatoes, apples and pineapple - but it tasted fresh and delicious. Our first main course dish was the "Swimming Rama". Who could resist a name like that? It was chicken in peanut sauce on a bed of spinach. The next was roast duck in a mild red curry paste with baby corn, vegetables and pineapple. Our final main course was one of the daily specials - tiger prawns with two kinds of mushroom in a red curry sauce. As promised, it has lots of big prawns and both white and straw mushrooms. All of the dishes were perfectly flavoured with the rich taste of coconut milk. By the way, do not expect a fancy place. It is more of a cafe/diner style of decor and the washrooms are in desperate need of a deep cleaning and/or new coat of paint. But if you want great food at a reasonable price (our dinner for 4 was $60 + tip) I would highly recommend this place. "
