"Nice Restaurant, Good Steaks"

November 2011 — "I took my in-laws to Vintage Steakhouse and we were not disappointed. I had a New York strip steak with a Caesar salad to start, and we all ordered sides to share between us. The starter salad was huge! It was lacking on the dressing, though. Other than the size, it was an average salad – nothing spectacular. I like how they come to your table to show you the different types of steak before you order. The steak, however, is served on its own, hence the reason we ordered sides to share. I ordered marrow potatoes, which were very rich. They are delicious, but it’s hard to eat more than a couple of bites. We had the choice of sitting in the dining room or the lounge; we chose the lounge and it was very nice. The whole restaurant is very elegant. It seems very classy, but there is no dress code (which is good, because I was wearing jeans.) The booths in the lounge are nice – they were very private, which was good because it was very busy and the booths beside us were occupied. We really enjoyed our meals, and were happy we finished when we did because a live band (that was very loud) started playing right as we were leaving. It seemed that it was have a great vibe for a cocktail later in the evening. We will definitely keep Vintage in mind the next time we’re going out for a special occasion."

November 2011 — "Some friends and I went to the Vinatge Chophouse Friday night to watch our friends band in the lounge. By the time we arrived, it was very busy and there were no tables available. The Hostess informed us that she would get us a table as soon as she could but in the meantime get as close to the bar as possible. The bar was lined with patrons and we had to stand behind the bar. We watched waitresses pass by us for about 5 minutes, like were were invisible so my friend went to the side of the bar to order. The waitress she approached was extremely rude. She treated us like homeless people and even referred to us as "Walk Ins". Even though the Manager tried to rectify the situation, we will not be returing anythime in the future. "

August 2010 — "Excellent food and the service was very good. We had supper and listened to a fine band later that evening, I believe they were called "Cliffhanger". The girl singing was brilliant and had a great rapport with the other clients in the place. Thanks Vintage Chophouse!"

"The Make Ordinary Extraordinary!"

March 2010 — "A couple of my co-workers and I went to Vintage Chophouse for their Dine Out Calgary Menu, an event that takes place once a year for Calgary Restaurants to show their stuff with a set menu. The starter was your choice of caesar salad or soup of the day. I went with the soup which was a seafood chowder served with a cheese biscuit. It was unbelievable good with big chunks of shrimp and salmon. The soup is on their regular menu and I think I will have to be back for a second helping. Their entrée was believe it or not, was meatloaf with mashed potatoes and asparagus. I have never been a big fan of meatloaf, but this one was fantastic. Moist and flavorful, I finished every bite. The dessert was a chocolate mouse with strawberry coulee, very decadent and rich. All in all it was a great meal. Vintage is a very classy looking place but I had a look at their regular menu and while it is a bit on the pricier side, I would say it is reasonable for the quality of food. I was a little disappointed by the service, it was friendly, but a little on the slow side for a weekday lunch. I would recommend it for a nice dinner downtown."

"Incredible food and service!"

February 2010 — "We just returned from dining at the Vintage Chophouse for the first time and wanted to put in writing what an amazing evening we had! Our service from the moment we stepped in the door was incredible - friendly, helpful and professional. Our server, Valerie, was exceptional as she genuinely seemed to enjoy working with all of her customers and she was also very friendly! The food - which was a feature menu special for Valentine's Day - was probably the best meal we have ever eaten in a restaurant! Lobster ravioli, caprese salad, prime tenderloin, shrimp, scallops, vegetables and Baked Alaska. PERFECTLY cooked and prepared with exquisite, mouthwatering flavours. We highly recommend the Vintage Chophouse and are planning to return for our Anniversary in a few months! "

"Outstanding Food and Service"

November 2009 — "I took my sister to Vintage for her birthday dinner and to say I was impressed would be a gross understatement. We both had the 8 oz Tenderloin and shared the Truffle Mac & Cheese and Wild Mushroom Scalloped Potatoes. I also added on the Lobster Tail. My steak was cooked to perfection and it was so tender it almost melted in my mouth. The lobster was a nice (but probably unnecessary) addition. The Truffle Mac & Cheese is, as I had been told, to die for. I have never tasted anything quite like it. The potatoes were a delight as well. For dessert, I had the creme brulee and it was exceptional. I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I can't resist creme brulee and I'm glad I didn't! The service was excellent. The server who was first assisting us got tied up with another table so another server took over for her and he was very attentive and friendly. From the moment I walked in to the moment I left (and again when I open up my doggie bag later) I was absolutely thrilled with Vintage. I would recommend it to anyone looking for exceptional food, particularly those in search of the perfect steak."

"Great Lunch Spot"

June 2009 — "After walking by this restaurant many times, I finally decided to try it out for lunch. The atmosphere is very upscale and on par with the best steak houses in town. The servers are dressed sharply and provide very professional service that one would expect from higher dining places. However, the prices you pay do reflect this. I ordered the beef dip which came on a cheese loaf with a side of fries. While a tad expensive, it was probably the best beef dip I’ve had in this city. The meat was pink and juicy and the cheese loaf it was served on was perfect. I loved everything about the meal including the fries, which were fresh and crispy. They also offer a nice assortment of dessert. If you get a chance try the 3 types of gelato, served on 3 individual soup spoons. The presentation was immaculate and I would definitely go again. "

"Lunchtime treat"

November 2007 — "I just had a terrific lunch and wanted to share the experience with anyone else who might be considering lunch at Vintage. On a cold -17 C day it was a pleasure to walk into such a warm and inviting restaurant. I arrived a noon and was quickly taken to my table. Our waitress Jill was quick to arrive and take our drink orders while my guest and I checked out the lunch menu. Unfortunately we chatted over drinks for just a bit to long and when it came time to order we were both disappointed to learn that the soup of the day, Crab and Corn chowder, was sold out. We both agreed that just the aroma of the soups being consumed around us would bring us back to try this one again! I ordered the half order of the Vintage salad with a half order of the Wild Mushroom Ravioli. The pasta was tender and cooked just the way I like it the creamy mushroom sauce was not too rich and the wild mushroom flavour was terrific. the portion size was perfect for lunch. the Vintage Salad was fresh and tastey and the combination of salad and pasta was just the right proportion for lunch. My companion ordered the Ahai Tuna salad and commented on how tastey the tuna was, it was also cooked to perfectly, seared nicely on the outside and tender on the inside. Both meals arrived promptly and had it not been for our extended catch up we would have been in and out in an hour. I would definitely recommend Vintage for lunch and can't wait to give them a try for dinner."

"Best Steak in Calgary!"
Image

Save Review

November 2007 — "Not sure what the last reviewer was talking about...a group of 8 of us went to Vintage two weeks ago and had the best dinner I've had in a long time. I've just moved to Calgary from Houston and have heard people talk about Vintage Chophouse (not be be confused with the other Chicago Chophouse in Calgary - very different) so we thought we'd try it. We had to make reservations a couple of weeks in advance and so hoped the whole experience was worth it. 7 of us ordered beef - and they serve Canadian Prime which is the best in the city. When it came to the table it was cooked perfectly and was the best steak I've had in ages. The other person had some chicken dish that she loved. The service was top notch - keep in mind the servers won't pretend to be your best friend like some other establishments - but they are very friendly and efficent. Our server was also very knowledgable about wine and suggested a great wine that ended up going with what everyone ordered. The one drawback was that one of the side dishes (lobster mashed potatoes) came out a bit cooler than it should have been, but when we mentioned this to the server it was wisked away and replace with a new side dish almost instantly. The bill was heafty but compared to other fine dining establishements the value was certainly there. I've since made reservations for another business lunch and dinner with friends and very much looking forward to it!"

"Terrible except for steak"
Image

Save Review

May 2007 — "Terrible overall but Four of us dined here with the only good comment from one adult who had steak which he rated possibly the best of his life. My crab was inedible, my side of truffle potatoes was huge but cold. My caesar salad had almost no dressing (I have never had to ask for a side of dressing), the other three adults all had non-descript food, all unimaginative and cold. Our waiter was void of comment or expression when we asked for various items to try to "fix" our food. Service was basically non existent. Fetching with "no comment" style. We were very confused as to how anyone could think this was good food. Pehaps the rumours of how bad it is to get good help in Calgary were at it's best this particular Friday night. We all agreed the chef needed to go for many, many reasons as did our waiter. We would never recommend Vintages to anyone. Our standards are too high. "

"Never a let down"

February 2007 — "I have been to this restaurant several times over the past few years and each time I walk away thoroughly impressed. The ambiance is fantastic, the service is great and the food is phenomenal. Their drink list is great; the wine is affordable and the selection is good. The cocktails are wonderful too (although prices have jumped to beyond ridiculous lately). The food is wonderful right from the appetizers down to the final meal. My boyfriend and I always order the same thing and it is made to perfection each time. Their appetizer salads are great (especially the ceasar salad) and the prawns are great too (they are so huge you'd swear they are small fish). Service is prompt and everyone is so polite. It is on the pricey side for a night out ( we usually pay about $200 for drinks, food, gst and tip) but it is money well spent. It's a great place to laugh with friends or even go on a date. Servers are usually very good about coming around just enough but not too much. They know how to give you your privacy. It's a wonderful place and you will not be let down. I highly recommend it, especially because it is a rarity to have me gush about a place so much."

"Hot Date Night!"
Image

Save Review

February 2007 — "The Vintage Chophouse is an excellent spot for a special night out. My boyfriend and I went there on a Saturday night; we arrived early and with reservations so that helped with seating and service alike. This place features tasteful ambience and beautiful décor. You can tell it’s going to be a classy night out as soon as you sit down. I ordered a steak with a red wine demi-glaze and sautéed mushrooms. Very good, and highly recommended. Just as we were ordering our desserts the live jazz band began playing. I don’t remember her name, but she sang with the most captivating voice I have ever heard. It was a wonderful way to end off a delicious meal. We sat and enjoyed the show over drinks for about an hour. The menu is pricey, so some sipping was required! All-in-all, this restaurant is a top choice for anyone looking for a hot spot on date-night! "

February 2007 — "My boyfriend and I have been here a few times now, and every time we are overly impressed with everything. The food is fantastic and the service is absolutely top notch. I recommend a steak with the red wine demi-glaze and the scalloped potatoes or the mushrooms. The wine selection is fabulous. It is a very pricy evening out, but I think it is worth it for a special occasion once in a while. Also, on Friday and Saturday nights they usually have a live band/singer in the lounge. It is a great place to go just for a drink and some good music on the weekend. Enjoy!"

September 2006 — "I went to the Vintage Chophouse for lunch the other day with my Dad. Both our orders were tasty and served in a timely fashion (I had the Vintage Burger with salad and my Dad had the Chorizo Sausage Flatbread Pizza). Of course, my Dad thought everything was overpriced. Or, as he'd put it: "I remember when you could get 64oz steak and a beer for a dime.""
