December 2011 — "Rouge is easily the best restaurant I've ever been to in Calgary and one of the best I've been to anywhere. Having been to Tetsuya's in Sydney, I was very impressed and intrigued to see that Rouge, like Tetsuya's, made the an Pelligrino list of the Top 100 restaurants in the world. Only 2 Canadian restaurants made the list and Rouge placed the highest.
I was very excited to visit the restaurant on a recent visit home and I wasn't disappointed. The setting is fantastic. Located in a historic home in Inglewood, the restaurant shows off it's Albertan roots. I love that they strive to use local, organic ingredients and even have their own garden in the back. I was also incredibly impressed to see that they are committed to using seafood and fish that has been certified ocean friendly by the Vancouver Aquarium.
The service was outstanding. Our waiter was friendly and attentive without being at all overbearing. Even though he was busy, he was happy to stop and chat about the restaurant, the chefs (most of home have ben trained locally at SAIT), and the fact that the house is rumored to be haunted.
Our wine and pre-dinner drinks (I had a gin and tonic) were fantastic and the wine the waiter recommended perfectly complimented my meal. We shared the beet cured Halibut gravlax to start and it was perfect and delicious as was my main meal, the seared B.C. scallops. Everything tasted amazing and I was disappointed that I was too full to eat dessert.
I was also impressed by the prices, which were very reasonable considering the setting and the quality of the food.
Rouge absolutely deserves all of the kudos it has received and I hope that I am lucky enough to go again.
The only thing I'm taking a point off for in the ratings scale is the drink selection. They don't really do cocktail and I think it might be cool if they had one of Calgary's talented mixologists create a few signature drinks. "

July 2011 — "I had never been to Rouge, but had heard a lot about how good the food was. I finally got the chance to dine there when my wife's company had a dinner function there. We started with drinks in the covered tent outside, which was pretty nice but it was a bit chilly. For our meal we moved upstairs to a private dining room. Rouge is a really beautiful old house that appears to have a bunch of dining areas. We started with some kind of mushroom salad type thing which was very good. For my main I had the chicken and WOW, it melted in my mouth. So good. Probably the best chicken I've ever had in a restaurant. For dessert we were served creme brulee. Also very good. The service was ok, the food was good and the ambiance was unique. I will probably go back again for a special occasion like our anniversary. It seems like a good place for a romantic dinner."

June 2011 — "Every year the company my wife works for throws a summer party this year it was held at Rouge.
What a place! This restaurant is located in the old Cross house in Inglewood. I didn't realize how large the house or the grounds were. It was very nice.
We started out with drinks on the patio - and this would be my only complaint. I am Canadian eh? And I like a good beer. While the beer list was quite extensive they did not have one beer I was familiar with. The waitress was most helpful, but I did not like my exotic choice.
After drinks we headed up stairs to a private dining room to enjoy our dinner. Both my wife and my self had the stuff chicken breast. Hands down the best chicken I have ever had!!
For desert we were served Creme Brulee. Also unbelievable!
The service was excellent and quick. All and all a 10 out of 10 for me! I can't wait to sneak my wife back there for a date....sans the 20 work mates of course! "

Located in a red character home (built in 1891) in historic Inglewood, Rouge is open for lunch and dinner. The gourmet menu features seasonal dishes and include such offerings as seared scallops and smoked trout with honey and lemon cream, black candied breast of duck, buffalo flank steak and much more.
