February 2011 — "FATS stands for "fifth avenue ten street" which coincidentally is the location in Kensington. It used to be a vehicle maintenance shop with garage doors which makes for a cool pub because they kept the garage doors and can roll them up in the summer time to let the place breathe. We started with the calamari which was served with purple and green onion. It had a nice light batter than went well with the homemade tzatziki. I was disappointed that the carbonara chicken pizza is not on the menu any more but still knew that pizza was the way to go here. The two of us ordered the $18 large "Spicy" pizza which comes with cappicola ham, pepperoni and banana hot peppers. What makes FATS pizza arguably the best pizza in Calgary, is the fact that there is tonnes of cheese right to the edge of the crust so you get the gooey cheese in the middle and the hard crusty cheese on the crust. It was undeniably awesome. Washed it all down with a few pints of Guinness and we left full to the brim. The Guinness was a little pricey at $7 a pop. I like the long tables in the middle of the pub because it has that kind of atmosphere where you could potentially sit with strangers but yet still feel comfortable because they have lots of tv's with sports. They also have a cool timer that countdowns to the next Flames game. The service was decent and the price was fair. Will definitely go back. "

"Decent food; poor, poor service"

September 2009 — "FATS is a decent little pub in Kensington to watch a game at. The food is alright, but on this visit the service annoyed me enough to say something. We ordered one of FATS pizza pies and were content with it. It had a thick, flaky crust, but it also had a lot of toppings and cheese and the sauce was rich enough to taste. I liked it. Until our server desecrated it.... I had finished most of it, but my girlfriend wanted to take the last two pieces home. We asked the girl to box it up for us and she obliged. But she also thought it fine to lay the bottoms of our plates and dirty napkins on top of the pizza to take it back to the kitchen. I objected and she shot me a look. She had also dangled her rag and whatever bits she had wiped up over the pizza as well. It was disgusting and neither one of us finished it. It was busy that afternoon, but a little bit of thought on the part of the waitress would have continued an otherwise enjoyable visit. Anyway, I have no real reason to be back. The beer was cold, the general ambiance was crowded but courteous and the meal was good, but careless handling of food turns a person off. It raises a lot of other questions about the proper handling of food before it even makes it to the table. I hope the young lady learned a lesson that day after I spoke to her about it, but I wouldn't count on it. I was just another person who had the nerve to cut out a tip. Go figure....."

"A Surprising Treat!"

May 2008 — "I hadn't been to FATS since it had changed over from being the shady Red Onion years ago... I didn't think that they could possibly make that space appealing, but wow, was I ever wrong. I was so pleased to see how they've renovated the pub and the brick walls and dark atmosphere really make it cozy. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat and a couple pints on a Saturday afternoon and were pleased with both the food and the service. We will definitely go back again now that we see it isn't a sleazy strip-mall hole, it's actually a really nice pub with good food and very cold beers."

March 2008 — "I have been in and out of FATS over the last 3 years. They have gone through some pretty impressive improvements lately. Food is back to the awesome level it was at last summer, after a period of inconsistancy in quality, and the prices are still affordable. Service and atmosphere is awesome once again! My butter chicken was good enough to make me write a review here. Way to go FATS - great come back from your bump in the road!"
