"Amazing Fish & Chips"

June 2011 — "I stopped into this little pub during a lunch hour on a Tuesday and it was quite quiet but that only meant great service and fast lunch. I sat at the bar and had the fish and chips $12 but they aren't the ordinary kind. They make theirs with basa fillets and use beer batter with mill street organic beer. They were light, non-fishy, flaky, and awesome. The best part was that they came with a homemade tartar sauce that also wasn't the ordinary kind. It had capers and chopped up dill pickle. It was a bit runny and all the capers were at the bottom but nothing a little stir couldn't straighten out. The tartar was very much like a dill pickle chip dip but thinner. I loved it and was stuffed after eating all of the fries too. I also enjoyed an Alpha Dog pale ale which was really great. While I was eating the bartenders boyfriend came in and she gave him a kiss. Then she was paying a bit more attention to him and kind of remembered that I was there. I didn't mind since I'm not high maintenance but others may have been choked at that. All in all the food was worth the visit and the server was nice. "

"Fun on a Saturday Night"

March 2011 — "Came here for a birthday over the weekend, and forgot just how fun the Yardhouse in Kensington could be. My friends and I made sure to come early so we could grab a bite before the crowd made dealing with a busy server a tough task. I gave the pulled pork with a side of fries a try. I was pleased to find that while not as good as a real smokehouse might be able to pull off, the sandwich did the trick with a decent combination of barbecue sauce and coleslaw. As predicted our server was very prompt and friendly when we first ordered our meal, but as the night progressed we ended up settling our tab and just going up to the bar for our drinks. This doesn't diminish the job our server did, it was just a situation where the restaurant was understaffed for a busy night. Call me old, but if I have one complaint, it's that the music in the place was a bit loud, which made for some very loud conversations."

Description

The Yardhouse Restaurant has two locations in Calgary. In these lounges, patrons can try out the Half a Yard Tall beer, in a glass that requires a wooden structure for support. They serve a variety of Canadian cuisine dishes and host a wide range of beer on tap. Their 17th Avenue location has a tremendously popular patio along the strip.
