"Great Late night Chinese! "

October 2011 — "Up the hill on the centre street just out of downtown is a great little late night chinese Restaurant that is open til 2 am on weekends. Reasonable prices, and hot, quick, delicious entrees make for a great time! This place is fantastic and has the greatest food. Its not a fancy place, nor is it that cleanly or fabulous inside. The service can be slow, and unkind. But can easily be overlooked, for the mouth watering noodles, meats, and delicate sauces. Sure to be a fave. Won Ton soup to die for really. Its a great place to stop in at after having a few drinks downtown, headed back from work on a late night, or just to drop in for some good food and times. One of my favorites is the Ginger beef. always cooked to perfection and the sauce the best anywhere. Try Happy Hill today it is sure to become one of your favorite hidden gems too! "

"Great Late night Chinese!"

September 2010 — "One night my sister and I were heading back to her place from downtown and were starving! She lives close to Edmonton trail, so she decided to take me to Happy Hill. I had never been before but from what she told me it was one of the best late night chinese spots in town. We walked into, a very large restaurant with your cliche Chinese decorations. There was barely anyone there, but I guess thats what is to be expected at 12am on a Thursday. My sister took control of the ordering as she had been there before and decided on three things to share. We ordered green tea and our food arrived within probably 10 minutes at the most. It was hot, fresh, so tasty! We had the ginger beef, Veggie n beef stirfry with noodles, springrolls, and chicken balls. Lets just say there was a ton of leftovers! The portions were very large, on dish on the menu could feed you as a whole meal for sure. And the prices were out of this world! Cant wait to take my husband there and share the experience. You will not leave hungry or dissatisfied! When in need for some late night Chinese Happy hill overlooking downtown on Edmonton Trail N is the place to be! And its on a hill!! :) "

"Excellent Service and Good Hot Pot"
Image

October 2009 — "I went to try out the all you can eat late night hot pot at Happy Hill on a Saturday night with a group of friends. At first I thought it was a bit pricey for hot pot but I was really impressed by how fresh the food was. The waitresses were really good and quick with taking our orders. They brought a lot more food than we could actually eat. The selection of meats is good and the portions are fairly big so beware when ordering. They have a good variety of different soup bases you can choose from. The restaurant itself is not spectacular in terms of decor but it is what you would expect from a Hong Kong cafe style restaurant. It has the usual tile flooring and bright lights. I would highly recommend Happy Hill for a good all you can eat feast with your friends or family."

"Great Service, Decent Prices, Horrible Dim Sum"

September 2009 — "I think my title just about says it all. I would like to think that Happy Hill was having a bad day when I visited on Sunday with my family for dim sum lunch. I've been there in the past and don't recall the dim sum being that bad but this time every dish was bad across the board. The food was all luke warm and didn't really taste like anything. Some of the dishes tasted really overcooked and many items weren't fresh like they had been sitting around for some time. On the other hand, the service was outstanding for a Chinese restaurant or a restaurant in general. The place was packed with people but we still got a big table set up for the 12 of us. The waitresses had all our hot sauces prepared quickly for our table. The tea was always replenished and they pleasantly took our drink orders. I wouldn't recommend this location for the dim sum but I have tried the all you can eat hot pot at night (great value) and menu items for dinner and would highly recommend this restaurant."

"Good Location, Not so good food."

August 2009 — "Happy Hill is a Chinese restaurant located on Centre Street, just before the Centre Street bridge. Its conveniently located for those who don’t want to drive into Chinatown and have to deal with looking for a spot to park and paying for parking. Aside from the convenient location, I really don’t have anything else good to say. The food was quite unremarkable. The taste was bland, the meat was rough and noodles were not fresh. We ordered the Sweet and Sour pork, Beef Ho Fan Noodles and Ginger beef. The prices averaged about $10 per dish, but I would not have been satisfied at even $5 per dish. Perhaps it was an off day, but I was not too impressed as I’ve had better Chinese food from the fast food places in the mall. I read on the sign that they also serve dim sum, perhaps I will come back to try that but if the dinner menu is any indication, I am not setting my expectations too high."

"Late Night Food Stop"

March 2009 — "When my friends and I want to grab a bite at 2am, but don't want to be surrounded by drunken clubbers, we hit up Happy Hills. A run of the mill Chinese restaurant, it features a large menu full of great food options. Last time I visited my friends and I ordered a variety of dishes like Hong Kong style pork chops, gai lan with garlic, and jelly fish with shredded chicken. All were prepared as well as any other restaurant found down the bridge in Chinatown. If you do end up coming here make sure to order their salt and pepper squid. It is a standout. The service was quick, if not completely pleasant. Although considering we were in there in at 2 in the morning, that wasn't a surprise. The restaurant itself looks like a standard Hong Kong cafe, with the notable exception of having several tables equipped for hot pot dinners."

"Too expensive!"

Save Review

January 2009 — "My Father-in-law took us to the Happy Hill restaurant for dinner and ended up will a $68 bill, that was way too expensive for only 3 dishes of food, plus the dishes that we ordered were not lobsters or abalone, they were veggie dishes and a lamb stew. They also charged us $3 per person for rice, and we did not even eat a lot of rice!! Well at least they gave us free dessert, which was not bad. I have been to this restaurant before and quite liked it, we had Dim-Sum and that was reasonable and not over priced. The restaurant was clean with simple decor, the service was ok. All in all i would not go back there for supper again!"

"Great late night eats! "

August 808 — "We were on the way home from the bar at about 1:00am on a Tuesday and decided we were in the mood for some late night Chinese food! A friend of mine had recommended the Happy Hill. Since it was on the way home, we gave it a go! First off, it was great to find a restaurant open and serving so late. Since we were some of the only customers, the service was really quick and our food came right away. The menu was huge with probably about 100 items or more to choose from. We had lemon chicken, chicken chow mein and some wonton soup. There was plenty to take home and we thought the price was really good for what we got. Everything was hot and fresh. The tables and the washrooms were very clean. I would recommend the Happy hill to anyone wanting authentic Chinese food for a good price, no matter what time of day! "
