September 2011 — "I decided to take a friend to lunch at the trendy Avocado restaurant located on 17th ave SW. I haven't heard much about it, but I understand that is a growing restaurant. We made reservations, however, upon arrival it was apparent that reservations were not required; at least not that day. We were seated promptly and attended to right away. We both settled on the tenderloin burrito with sweet potatoe fries. We also ordered a side of guacamole. The food came reasonably quick and the ingredients appeared to be fresh. We were both quite satisfied with our meals which were tasty. The service was excellent, the food was great and the atmosphere was warm, modern and engaging. The price point was decent for an "mid - upscale" restaurant being approximately $15 each for our main dishes. Together with our drinks (non-alcoholic), our total tab came to just under $50. A pretty decent meal and fairly priced in my opinion."

May 2011 — "This was a good restaurant, but understaffed the day that we were there. Our server apologized, and did his best to serve us and many other tables. This place doesn't look the greatest, and it is a little run down when compared to other restaurants in the area - but it is clean. The menu is interesting, not real Mexican in my opinion. They have some interesting items, and I ordered the fish tacos. They were really good! I expected some sort of side, but the 3 tacos just came by themselves. The fish was fried, and the toppings were fresh. I had an overall good experience, and would recommend Avocado if you are looking for something Mexican inspired."

April 2011 — "The layout of this restaurant is modern and attractive and there were quite a few people eating an early dinner when we arrived. The food wasn't cheap but that is par for the course in Calgary it seems. I ordered the Pork Burrito and added extra Jalapenos. The meal wasn't very big compared to many places, moderately sized at best. The flavour was good though, especially when dipped into the Mexi-dip. The actual burrito cost me $13.75 and extra Jalapenos cost another fifty cents. Even the dip was $0.75 extra. I don't like places that nickel and dime you to death. You would think that for $13.75 they could give you a few jalapenos and a dipping sauce as well. Anyway, although the meal was okay, it was nothing special and I doubt that I will return to Avodado Fresh Mexican Grill. The server was friendly enough and did her job well, but value for the money fell a short. "

March 2011 — "After eating a lot of fast food the week before, we decided we needed to eat a little "healthier". I always think of Avocado Grill when I need great tasting food without the guilt. We went in with the kids and ordered the Todo Dip to start. Normally, it is so hot the cheese is all gooey goodness, but we found it a little on the lukewarm side that night and also lacking a bit on the other ingredients. They had a drink special that me and the kids had that was AMAZING! It was pureed raspberries, sprite, vanilla syrup and crushed ice. So refreshing and pure heaven. A little on the pricey side though so we each only had one. My daughter and husband had burritos, which normally we have found to be HUGE, but they literally looked like a third of the burrito had been taken away. My quesadillas were quite sparse in the filling department as well. We wondered about the recent news story of the increase in food prices and restaraunts having to increase their prices. I think the Avocado Grill has decreased their portion sizes instead on passing on a price increase. Regardless, still great food and a good atmosphere."

April 2010 — "The Baja Veggie Burrito, sweet potato fries, guacamole, and salad were all very good. Often a side salad can be boring and watery; not this one. It was sprinkled with freshly grated parmesan and very tasty. The service was friendly, quick, and always there when needed. The wait staff suggested a dip for the sweet potato fries; it was delicious. Servers were very accommodating with any special requests. The atmosphere was modern, clean, quiet, and relaxed. All around, while it didn’t feel like an authentic Mexican place, it was a very nice modern Mexican experience."

Although the calamaris were great tasting, it is safe to say that for the quanity recieved for 11.50, the value wasn't there
$15 for a burritto seems high but I loved the french fries
My wife loved the shimp taco
But was it worth $51 with one beer I think not."

March 2010 — "My partner and I were out looking for a quick lunch stop before picking a few things from IKEA. Within the same complex of IKEA, we realized that we have never tried this new-ish Mexican restaurant. When we went into the restaurant, almost all the seats were full (weekday and late lunch!) and so we were expecting it to be great food. This was awfully true about their tortilla chips that come with their burritos-very fresh, crunchy and different colors of chips had different tastes. The burritos were ordered were the Ranchero Burrito (steak) and the Pulled Pork Burrito. That day, all dishes with steak were $9. The burritos were large - we finished half and packed the other half for home. However, we both found the meat to be very dry as they do not pour greasy sauces and tons of cheese on them. So in general, the food here is pretty healthy, just remember to use the salsa. The restaurant itself was clean and waiters were friendly. "

February 2010 — "We were in a big box store area of the city where there is ample parking, were hungry and looked across the parking lot to see the Avocado Fresh Mexican Grill sign and it drew us in. The restaurant has a fairly small interior and being 1:00 p.m. it was full when we entered. We were greeted at the door with huge smiles and welcomes and assured that we would have a seat within minutes. The aromas were pretty great so we stayed. The colors inside are deep and the open industrial celing was painted black so we found the restaurant a little dark during the day. However we were not disappointed in the food. My entree was a quesidillas full of chicken, black beans and fabulous corn salsa. I found my meal to have a very fresh Tex-Mex taste. We enjoyed their house wine which was a Sonora Ranch Chardonnay and at the end of the meal asked for coffee. It was delightful as it is made one cup at a time and so was very fresh and very strong. Our server was very pleasant and accommodating. We really enjoyed our lunch and were glad we hadn't left the big box store area to find a place to eat."

November 2009 — "I had eaten at the Deerfoot Meadows location, but recently saw that they had opened another one right on 17th avenue SW! I decided to take my wife there on a Friday night for dinner, since I really enjoyed my previous experience. When we entered I was impressed with the atmosphere, it is very modern and trendy and the place was fairly packed. We were seated at a booth by the manager I believe, and ordered some Pacificos (they were on special for $4.50). Our server greeted us in about 5 minutes, which was a bit long to wait, but I know she was probably busy. We ordered the queso crips to start, which is basically a tortilla pizza. It was very good and was served with salsa and sour cream. I got the Drunken Burrito and it was DELICIOUS. It was the perfect amount of spicy, but not too much that you couldn't enjoy the food. The yam fries and aioli I got with them were so good. I would go back just for those! The ambiance of the restaurant was that of a trendy 17th AVE venue, kind of like a lounge. They were playing loud dance music, so if you're not into that, you probably wouldn't enjoy it! Overall though, the food was great, the service was pretty good and I will be back."

February 2009 — "When we were shopping in the Deerfoot Meadows complex, we happened upon Avocado and decided to try it out for lunch. It's a pretty small restaurant, probably no more than 25 tables, but it has a nice cozy atmosphere and a bar where people can sit. We had to wait a few minutes for a table because the place was packed, but we didn't mind. The hostess gave us some menus to peruse while we waited. We were seated at a booth and the server promptly took our food and drink orders.
I decided to have one of their organic teas, the peppermint, while my wife had their martini Valentine's Day special - some kind of blueberry raspberry concoction. To start we opted for the Todo Dip, which was described as everything that goes into a burrito. It was served with tortilla chips and was very tasty.
For our mains we both decided to have burritos - I chose to have the Drunken Burrito, which had double marinated chicken in tequila and other ingredients. It was very good. My wife had some kind of spicy chicken burrito and I got to try it and thought it was very good, but also quite spicy.
Throughout our brief dining experience, the wait staff was very attentive, constantly clearing our dishes and checking how things were. We will definitely visit Avocado's again."
