July 2010 — "This Restaurant is located in one of the most beautiful settings on Vancouver Island; Bear Mountain Resort. The building is gorgeous, with dark mahogany walls and tables, seating inside and huge french doors that open to a fantastic concrete deck area. The ambiance is a 10, but the service is a zero. Six of us arrived just before noon for lunch. There was no one in the building portion of the restaurant and only half the tables were taken on the patio. This is a large establishment and probably has seating for well over a 100 patrons. Once seated, the people at the table beside us, had gone to the bar for drinks, and advised us it had taken over 1/2 hour to get service. We took it upon ourselves to get our own menu's, and cutlery, and almost dragged a waitress to our table to take our order, that was after 20 minutes of waiting. Once our orders were given we waited another 1/2 hour for our drinks. The menu at Jack's is pretty unique. It is sectioned by pricing - $5.00 items, $10.00 items, $15.00 items, $20.00 and $25.00. Its a very good menu with a wonderful selection of appetizers, salads, meat, fish, pastas. Three of our group ordered one piece halibut and chips, and three ordered salads; Cobb, Ceasar and Spinach. When our orders finally arrived, the food was very good. No one had any complaints. My spinach salad was excellent, fresh with plenty of bacon, mushrooms, onions and a wonderful dressing. We shared the fries and they were delightful, coated in rice flour before frying. The meals were very good, the service was awful. It took over 2 hours for a lunch that should have taken no more than an hour. Its too bad, we had the same problem a few years back, and had hoped the service problem had been solved. Not yet! Its a beautiful location, but not worth the effort to try and eat in this establishment."

February 2010 — "During some errands near Bear Mountain, a friend & I decided to find a place for lunch. I had never seen the new development, its incredible. We decided to try the Westin Bear Mountain Golf & Country Club. We were in "Jacks". It would be the equivalent to a pub style restaurant lounge. The waitress was very nice and attended to us quickly. We ordered a couple of Caesers to drink while looking at the menu. They were served with pickled asperagus for $6. It looked like it had a good variety of beers on tap as well. There were a few Children were in the restaurant. I did not ask if they had a kids menu, but the menu had a nice variety of appys, sandwiches, natchos, soups, burgers, beef dips, pizza. All the headings on the menu were golf related, for example the appys was called "practice putts" and of course the salad section was called "the greens". We chose the chicken & brie pizza which was a grilled flatbread with mango chutney for $13 and also the house greens salad which was served in a long strip of cucumber ring, mixed greens, grated beets & carrot with a balsamic dressing. $8. The portions were healthy. Everything we saw at tables adjacent were also nice large portions. The food was very good. I thought the prices were comparable to other restaurants but the atmosphere was grand. A huge rock fireplace as you entered the building and another one on the other side where we were seated. Lots of tv's in every corner with sports playing. I would go back again and try some of the other things on the menu. We certainly enjoyed our lunch."
