"The Worst Service and Food"

January 2009 — "Yesterday, we drove to Bragg Creek for what we were hoping would be a nice lunch. After we were seated at our table, it became quickly apparent that the server was not waitress material. She was rude, and used very poor verbal and non-verbal (body) language. This was a very special occasion so, we were hoping for a nice meal and to have fun around our meal. When the waitress brought out the food that we ordered, she plunked the chicken parmesan in front of my son. He was not impressed. He found the looks of it was very unappealing and the size was not in sync with the price. He thought it looked like something out of a Michelina box. His meal included a salad, but the salad was the most basic salad I have ever seen. I saw an earlier review on this website who described it to a tee ... some lettuce a few cucumber slices, celery and some tomatoes with a packet of 1000 Island Dressing. Nothing at all unbelievable. He did try a taste of the chicken parmesan and did not like it at all. Eventually, the waitress came around and commented on him not being happy with his food. He said he was not. She rolled her eyes and took the food away. I could tell she was not delivering it back to the kitchen in a very favourable way. She came back and said, 'I am just the waitress, would you like to talk to the Chef/Owner'? My son said no and she rolled her eyes again. She said when she returned the food to the kitchen, the Chef/Owner said, 'That is the way we prepare the chicken and other people have not complained about it'. Wow, wrong answer. Does that mean that we aren't allowed to like it because supposedly everyone else thinks it is fine. After sitting there for a few more minutes, I thought about it and realized giving feedback to the kitchen was probably a good thing. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she was starting to become a bit more responsive. She did pass along the message to the kitchen. The chef/owner never did come out and talk with us. When our bill was delivered (thankfully, the chicken parmesan was deleted from our bill), the waitress said the chef/owner was too busy to talk to us, but I could pop my head into the kitchen. I declined. I am grateful the cost of the food was deleted from our bill. I do think that for $19, the Chicken Parmesan could look a little more appealing and be much more of a substantial meal. It is not good value for the dollar. It really surprises me that a business owner would not come face to face with the customer and be open and receptive to feedback - good or bad. I wasn't being rude ... just wanted to convey the experience. I consider this business suicide. For a small business in a small town to not take the time to care about their image (by way of food and service), their customer's experience, this is a 'recipe' for disaster. It really wouldn't have taken much for her to have made an uncomfortable position better. I appreciated the entre being deleted from the bill, but the treatment of us was never discussed. Good news travels fast, but bad news travels much faster. "

"Dave's Pizza Review of service and food"

May 2007 — "Hi there well we are going there tonight. So will finish this review upon our return. I live on an acreage off the 762 South hiway. Between Millarville and Bragg Creek. We have ordered and picked up Dave's pizza's on several occasions and been delighted with the results. In fact my girlfriend who lives in Black Diamond says it is great as she thinks the pizza place in Black Diamond is awful. She comes to our once a month to so that we can order and get pizza from Dave's.
This will be the first time we eat in at Dave's I called just now to see if I needed a reservation and was told not on a week night. They were very polite and asked how many of us were there going to be, answer was 5. She was polite and was looking forward to seeing us.
So like I said will finish this review once we have gotten back this evening.
Well the restaurant was not busy by any stretch of the imagination. There was only one other table of 6 there. My husband ordered fish and Chips and the rest of us a large pizza. As usual the pizza was excellent and too big for the three of us to finish. Even with my husband having a piece there was still large slices left. I would recommend it for a great place to talk, no loud music. The pizza which is about as good as you are going to get out here in the sticks. And for value, glass of wine a beer 2 ice teas, large pizza and 2 pieces of fish and chips (which were good) cost with tip $60. No bad for this town.
Service was good and we had a good time. I will be ordering pizza for our pizza loving friends again next week for a take out. (god no delivery out here, though with the price of gas don't really know how they could make money).

April 2007 — "Awful, poor service, terrible food and unpleasent dining experience. i advise not going here and exploring some of the other quaint little restaurants around the corner such as mountain bistro & pizzeria which is pretty much directly behind daves pizza... don't bother at daves."

March 2007 — "LOVE this pizza!! You can't find a veggie pizza like this just anywhere...my boyfriend and I make any excuse to enjoy the Bragg Creek area around a mealtime just so we can stop in at Dave's. Make sure you bring your appetite and extra napkins and enjoy!"

August 2006 — "I love Bragg Creek. Bragg Creek is very close to our Calgary home and great for short trips to get away. I have eaten at a few establishments in Bragg Creek before trying out Dave's "restaurant" and been pleased.
Dave's Pizza and Family Restaurant is not only the worst restaurant I've been to in Bragg Creek, but the worst restaurant I have been to, period. It is the black eye of this beautiful Alberta community.
I will summarize as quickly as I can but let me start by saying there were 4 tables being served (less than half the restaurant):
- We were seated immediately to a dirty table. Not normally an issue if the restaurant is full but there were many clean tables available.
- It took 5 minutes to have our table cleaned.
- It took 10 more minutes to get our waters (and I never received the lemonade I ordered).
- When we were ready to order I ordered their crab/cheddar melt and soup and my wife ordered their chef salad.
-While my soup looked ok, the rest of my meal looked very sub-par.
- We looked at my wife's chef salad and were very disappointed. It was about 5 pieces of lettuce, a couple cucumber slices, some celery, a small slice of processed Swiss cheese rolled up, a small slice of processed turkey rolled up and a packet of Kraft Italian dressing. Normally we wouldn't mind this if we ordered a side salad but this “restaurant” was charging $13.00 for this!
- We raised the issue with our server and she was understanding and brought the owner to speak with us. At this time, the owner started to argue that all the ingredients of a chef salad were there. I tried to explain to her that I know the ingredients of a chef salad but this was not worth $13.00. She continued to argue and rudely tell us that we don't know what we're talking about. Well...my line of work has had me traveling North America and Europe for the past 3 years and during my travels I have had an opportunity to experience all types of customer service and food so I do know what I am talking about. I also know that THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT! We started very nice about the salad and she turned it into a scene when she should have said “I’m sorry, we will return it at no cost, what would you like to order instead?”
- After arguing a little more about the service and the food we promptly left.
To summarize: This “restaurant” rates below my worst expectations. Rating it 1 is too generous but I am unable to rate lower. I would not even call this place a restaurant. None of the menu is original in anyway (all Costco pre-made ingredients, Kraft packets and a single “No Name” ketchup bottle to share throughout the “restaurant”), the service was poor and the food extremely, extremely overpriced. Additionally, the owner is somebody who cares about her bottom line much more than quality in general for this establishment or customer satisfaction. I would never recommend this “restaurant” to anybody unless they are thinking of opening a restaurant of their own and would like to learn all of the “don’ts” in the business. Finally, I will add this review to any online restaurant review sites I find and have already begun to share my experience with friends and colleagues."
