November 2011 — "Sushi Bar Zipang is a real treat! After living in Japan for a while you get spoiled by the real deal and you miss it when you get back to North America. Thankfully there are places like Zipang which pride themselves on providing authentic Japanese cuisine and who work hard to get those difficult to source ingredients which make the world of difference. PS Definitely try the Masuzake (Cold Sake served the traditional way)"

"So Expensive! TOo Expensive "

July 2011 — "My friend has been raving about Zipang in Bridgeland, very close to the zoo station. Tonight, we finally went to give it a try. It’s a little restaurant that right when you walk in, what you see is what you get. The restaurant isn’t very big, but has very clean, sophisticated look. One look at the menu, I was very aware that this was a traditional restaurant that sells itself on freshness and clean, pure sushi. Which, is really good, but truth be told each order and every piece of sushi is pretty expensive. My friend who raved about the restaurant, ate 4 piece of sushi and in the end, her half of the bill was $15! I ordered a dish of beef tataki, but it lacked heat - Tabasco sauce. The portions were so small too. Eh, for the price that I pay, I could go somewhere else to try some different things. It seemed to be a bit of a challenge for my friend to pick up the tamago sushi. It just fell apart. 5 words sums it up for me, Too rich for my blood. "

June 2011 — "This is absolutely the best sushi in Calgary. I have been to many sushi bars and this is simply the best. It is a regular sushi place for many people who live in Bridgeland, and can get quite busy on the weekends. If you are visiting on a Friday or Saturday night you should probably make a reservation. The sushi is really fresh, and they have an excellent menu featuring other authentic Japanese dishes that you do not see at other places. We were visiting for lunch this time, and were not disappointed. They offer an excellent lunch menu that you can mix and match. I would recommend this place to anyone!"

"Best Sushi in Calgary by far"

February 2011 — "Sushi Bar Zipang is a little restaurant located in Bridgeland. I have tried other sushi bars and none come close to this one. You know you're at a great place when the place is packed! Often we make a reservation if it the weekend. The restaurant itself is quite modern and nice, it has some sculpture/artwork in the middle of the restaurant. The menu is extensive and unique. There are several authentic items that are available. We ordered: a selection of sushi (salmon, tamago, hamachi, shitake), Kitsune Udon soup, and an Ebi Tempura Roll. The sushi was excellent, fresh, the best in the city. The Kitsune Udon soup was quite good, and had square pieces of sweetened tofu in it. They give you a spice shaker to add some zip to the soup if you wish. The Ebi roll has a freshly cooked shrimp tempura in it, and warms up the roll a bit which is nice. Service is good, but it is a busy place so there are times when you have to wait a few minutes for something. I love high quality the decorative plates that the food is served on, just makes dinner a little nicer."

September 2009 — "It's pretty hard to impress me when it comes to sushi these days. For the most part, sushi restaurants in Calgary pump out the same thinly sliced pieces of frozen fish prepared by some chef that took lessons at a community college. So when I come across one that does impress me, you better believe I want to tell people about it. Sushi Bar Zipang is worth talking about. It's a clean, quiet upscale restaurant found in Bridgeland that offers some of the finest cuts and hard to find types of sushi in Calgary. Seeing as how I couldn't decide on just one thing, I decided to try one of their dinner combos and just let the chef pick what type of sushi to serve me. What I got was a beautiful tray filled with thick cuts of salmon and tuna sashimi, lightly fried tempura and a couple of appetizers to boot. Not to mention a few slices of ala carte wild-sockeye salmon sashimi. Everything was superb. I literally walked out of the restaurant with a smile on my face, and considering I dropped 70 bucks on the meal, that's really saying something. Oh, I forgot to mention, this place is expensive. But worth it."

"My Favourite Sushi Place"

August 2006 — "I enjoy trying out any new Japanese restaurant that opens up in Calgary. My favourite is still Zipang. We're there almost every week!! The sashimi is sooooo fresh and the portions are huge!! Their lunch combos and dinner combos definitely leave you stuffed. A dinner favorite is the "Koji". (Steak and sashimi w/ soup, tofu, daily appetizer, mashed potatoes and yam chips). The tempura rolls are excellent as well as the Grilled Salmon Belly. MMMMM! If you actually have room for dessert, try out the Tempura bananas with ice cream. TASTY!!"
