March 2011 — "We have eaten in the restaurant before and really enjoy the food and service. We decided to try delivery this time and even though we were quoted 45 minutes, the food actually arrived in 30 minutes. The taste was great and wasn't too oily or salty. The price was also very reasonable, definitely recommend this place!"

"Best Bang For Your Buck"
February 2011 — "I went with some colleagues for lunch and the lunch special is unmatched. For $8.95 you can choose 2 of 20 items which include everything from cashew chicken to mixed vegetables. On top of that, the special includes plain or fried rice AND wonton soup or 1 spring roll. I chose the lemon chicken + bbq pork and vegetables + fried rice + wonton soup all for the low low price of $8.95. The lemon chicken was battered chicken breast with a sweet lemon side dip and was delicious. Many others at the table enjoyed it as well. The bbq pork with vegetables was OK. The veggies were better than the pork because the pork was a bit fatty and didn't have enough of the bbq flavour I was hoping for. The fried rice was quite good too as it offered the taste of wok. Probably the best part of the meal was the wonton soup and I'm not much of a connoisseur of wonton soup but let me tell you this was the best I've ever had. It had four pork wontons but the broth was the best part. It had a rich chicken broth taste with ginger. The service was fast and the waiter and waitress were friendly. The decor was a little tacky and there were spare tables on their side in an exposed side room. Nonetheless we were there for the food."

"Sizzling beef!!!"
December 2010 — "Emerald Garden is located on 16th Ave and has some of the best Chinese food in the city. They have a really big menu with really good prices. The service is really good too. Our server was really quirky and made the meal a lot fun. There is a spot right in the middle of the restaurant with a grill surrounded in plexiglass. You can watch one of the chefs cook right in front of you! The restaurant itself is very clean and although the decor isn't overdone in any way, it still has a classy yet comfortable atmosphere. I had the bbq pork fried rice, and the sizzling schezwan beef which was really cool and delicious. It came to our table on a hot plate crackling and sizzling! It had fresh peppers, onions and mushrooms with tender beef in a spicy schezwan sauce. I definitely recommend this! Great family restaurant. Our bill was fair and we had plenty left over to take home! "

December 2010 — "My boyfriend took me to Emerald Garden as he had been there years ago and loved it! What a great place! At 6pm on Friday, it was already quite busy. We were seated and greeted immediately by our friendly and hilarious server. She went out of her way the entire meal to make even the simplest of tasks entertaining and funny. We really liked the service. For an appetizer, we ordered the panfried pork dumplings. They were the best I have ever had; nice and crisp on the outside with delicious pork filling! My main was bbq pork fried rice and lemon chicken. The chicken was good quality chicken breast deep fried and served with a generous side of lemon sauce. The prices were very reasonable for what we got! I definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants delicious Chinese food paired with great service that makes the experience that much better! We will definitely be back! "

September 2010 — "We went to the Emerald Garden restaurant located right on 16th avenue. Nothing like sitting in a restaurant and watching semi trucks driving right before your eyes. After a few minutes of this, the truck traffic did not seem to matter any longer and the comfort of the restaurant seemed to take over. We ordered several dishes including the ginger beef, Hawaii fried rice, deep fried squid, beef and asparagus in black been sauce. The food arrived promptly and was piping hot. Each of the dishes were very tasty and some of the best chinese food I have had in the city. The servers were very courteous and friendly and always maintained a smile. The restaurant was clean, but most importantly the food was excellent! I will definitely be back to try out more of the fine dishes I am sure are served up in this establishment. While the location (on 16th avenue) is less than desirable, the food and service definitely makes this journey well worth it!"

"Best Peking duck I've tried so far...."

November 2009 — "I've heard mixed reviews about this place but I decided to give it a try for take-out. I ordered the Peking duck meal for delivery to share with a group of friends. The wait time was forever, probably over 1.5hrs even though they estimated about 30 minutes. On the bright side, the food was spectacular. The duck was moist and not fatty. The skin was crispy. The fried rice was one of the best I've had. The soup was good and other items were delicious. The duck sauce was a little oily than usual but still good. It's usually hard to maintain the freshness for delivery orders so I was very impressed. The food was an absolute 10/10 but the wait time was grossly underestimated. The price was really good for the amount of food you get. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Peking duck and would definitely try it again."

November 2009 — "We felt in the mood to order some Chinese food and noticed we had a take out menu from Emerald Garden. Its located on 16th ave near the Crescent Heights Community just before SAIT. We decided on the the 3 course Peking Duck meal, and qualified for the free Salt and Pepper ribs. (Free for orders over $40) Since we didn’t feel like leaving the house, we decided to take advantage of their free delivery service. We were told it would arrive in about 35 to 40 minutes which was fine. However about 60 minutes later, the food still did not arrive and we were getting quite hungry at this point. Finally we get a phone call from the restaurant telling us our order was delayed because my credit card did not go through, after speaking with them, we realized that they were misheard the credit card numbers over the phone and decided to hold our order at the restaurant until they payment processed. It would have been nice if they called right away instead of waiting an hour to have this sorted out. Once the payment cleared, she advised me that the driver is already out the door and we should see the food shortly. Well, that turned into another 30 minute wait…and we only live about an 8 minute drive away. Aside from the bad experience of ordering and waiting for the food to arrive the rest of the experience was good. The food was tasty and the ribs were quite delicious. For the usual Chinese take out, this was definitely a step above. The food was actually fresh….maybe to0 fresh. The driver was obviously not “already out the door” otherwise the 30min wait in between would have resulted in some soggy and warm food. Which was not the case, they obviously did not have the food ready in time. In this case, I guess id rather have fresh hot food rather than cold anyway. Maybe they got really busy, maybe not. But service aside food was great and we will likely give them a second chance down the road."

November 2009 — "I ordered a bunch of items from Emerald Garden for pickup, which included a Peking Duck, fried rice, soup, salt and pepper spareribs and sweet and sour pork. We arrived about 5 minutes later than the indicated time to pick up the food but went straight home with it. I've had take-out from this restaurant before but this time the food was terrible. The pork and ribs were all soggy and didn't taste like anything. The duck was a bit fatty and disappointing. The fried rice was not good at all. I'm not sure exactly what happened. Maybe they were having a bad day because in the past their Peking duck was spectacular whether it's dine-in, take-out or delivery. This experience was bad enough to make me not ever want to go back. However, perhaps this restaurant could be a hit and miss. I will give it another try before writing it off."

November 2009 — "I had not eaten at Emerald Garden for almost two years because I have severe allergies to shellfish and nuts and the last time I visited they told me they could not guarantee that anything that goes in the deepfryer does not have oysters on it. Apparently they deepfry oysters in there once a week... and I mean a lot of oysters.
Anyways, after a particularly bad bout of the flu I was craving something different...Chinese food! We had our favourite dishes at Emerald Garden, so we resorted back to those, and ordered them for delivery.... Salt & Pepper Beef, Sweet and Sour Pineapple Chicken, Spring rolls, Vegetable Medley and rice.
The person on the phone said it would be about 45 min to 1 hour, and it was about 55 minutes. The portions have decreased in the past 2 years. The beef was much smaller than it was before. The taste, although good, was nothing to get excited about. It's still not greasy, but it just wasn't the same. The chicken tasted dry, the beef was still good, but not as good. The spring rolls were good. The vegetables were tasteless and undercooked. In short, I was disappointed. For $47, I expected more. Oh well. It's not like I crave Chinese food too often, so it's really no loss. "

October 2009 — "You gotta try their Peking Duck (1,2 or 3 course meal). Their Peking Duck was nice and juicy, cooked just right with traditional home made pancakes, not those chewie wonton wraps that you get from other chinese restaurants. The Mango Chicken was hhmmmm......fresh mangos.... Highly recommanded to anyone who want to try out Chinese food. Emerald Garden is THE place to go."

October 2009 — "A friend of mine told us about the Emerald Garden Restaurant and she highly recommended it. So on Oct 17th which was my girl friend Birthday; we decided to have Chinese Food at the Emerald Garden Restaurant. We have to say this is one of THE BEST Chinese Food that we ever had in Calgary. their Ginger beef was very crispy and delicious, Salt & Pepper Squid was so Tasty; we also enjoyed their home make dumplings. They have experienced Servers on the floor and their service was at top nod. "

The wait wasn't long and the food tasted fresh. One dish in particular I would recommend is their chicken balls. April 2007 — "My friend recommanded this restaurant to me last month and insist that I give them a try, so I did. It was not what I expected from the look on the outside. The restaurant was nice and clean and staff was very friendly. The food...excellent...their Ginger Beef and Dumplings is a must try. I also tried their Mango Chicken....they use fresh mango...and it tastes very good. Now, I recommand this restaurant to all of you.

July 2006 — "Whenever I get the hankering for Chinese food, I only think of one place...Emerald Garden. They provide consistently delicious, non-greasy dishes that are expertly presented. A wide range of menu items are available, although we usually end up ordering the same thing every time! Make sure you try the salt and pepper beef! The chicken in black bean sauce is also delicious. As an appetizer, we usually order two orders of spring rolls. "
