March 2010 — "As epic as the name sounds, Dragon Gate is a pretty average little restaurant located in a nondescript business cluster at the corner of Fort and Oak Bay. But don't get me wrong. I love it there, and I order takeout from them more than I'd like to admit. Within those unadorned concrete walls lies a bounty of cheap, flavorful dishes perfectly suited to my gluttonous western pallet and my empty student pockets alike. Personal faves include the chicken chow mein (or fried rice, alternatively), szechwan tofu, szechwan beef, and the honey garlic pork, but there is plenty more to choose from. Though none of it is particularly unique or original to Dragon Gate, the food is consistently well prepared, and served in huge proportions. That is except for their egg rolls, we've had some pretty poor egg rolls from them, it's really hit and miss there. Although I prefer to order out from them, we have eaten in a couple of times, and are always treated well there."

March 2008 — "We tried Dragon Gate at the suggestion of one of my wife’s coworkers a while back, and it’s been our spot for Chinese take-out ever since. On our most recent trip we came back from a day out of town, hungry and craving something tasty. We made the trip over to Dragon Gate, located in an inconspicuous strip mall at the intersection where Fort meets Pandora. We placed our order and were told it would be ready in 15 minutes…when we arrived back at the restaurant just over 10 minutes later, it was ready to go. The small of the food in the car on the way home, for two hungry people, was almost too much to handle. We dug into our favorite dishes as soon as we got home. We’ve tried a few dishes from Dragon Gate, but we mainly stick to our three favorites, the Cantonese chow mein, twice cooked pork and chicken with cashews …with lots of rice on the side. The twice cooked pork is my absolute favorite. We tried Dragon Gate at the suggestion of one of my wife’s coworkers a while back, and it’s been our spot for Chinese take-out ever since. All I know is that the food is fresh and really tasty. Two of us can eat two meals for $30...so it’s decently priced too. Recommended for eat in or take out…I know we’ll be back.

December 2007 — "We’re new to Victoria and had not been to a great Chinese restaurant, until we found Dragon Gate! I was at a salon one day and was asking if anyone knew of a good Chinese restaurant and one of the girls who worked there was raving about Dragon Gate. She said it was great tasting but not greasy. So the next time my husband and I got the urge for Chinese we tried it. Wow, was it ever delicious! I think maybe some of the best Chinese food I’ve had in my life. It was so tasty and not greasy. The flavours were amazing. We tried a few dishes – the Cantonese chow mein, twice cooked pork, chicken with cashew nuts and rice. Just writing this is making my mouth water, it was so good. And it didn’t leave us feeling queasy like sometimes we do after eating Chinese. We had enough leftovers to give us a whole other meal. The service was good, the atmosphere was average, but the food was definitely worth a trip. The prices were average at about $10 per dish. We went a bit early so there weren’t many people when we first got there but the people were piling in by the time we left so we’re not the only ones who have discovered this place. I can’t wait to go back and try some other dishes."
