October 2009 — "We had heard this place was famous for their fish & chips, but I dont know why, or maybe it's because i got the haddock instead of halibut. The breading was really good but the fish wasn't that great. The fries were average, nothing spectacular. For a fish and chips place, their menu was pretty good and I was surprised that you even had a choice in the kind of fish, let alone 3 choices! (haddock, halibut and salmon).
It was a beautiful day so we sat across the walkway. It's clever that they use an old pager to notify people of their food being ready! (That's a great way to recycle old technology!)"

"Delicious Fish&Chips"

September 2009 — "On our trip to Victoria lately, my two travel mates and I decided to try the Fishermans Wharf for a tasty lunch. It was a beautiful day in the sunshine and we found a lot of folks decided the same thing that day. The lineup wound around on the wharf and while I stood and waited, my mates took a stroll to check out the neighbourhood seal begging for treats from the tourists and locals alike. It really wasn't that too bad of a wait to get my orders taken, and I was given a pager and told very kindly to wait til it buzzes. Now that was a long 30 minutes to wait for that buzzer to buzz, but we found out it was worth the time. My Pacific Halibut was huge and tender and flakey and so yummy. The cole slaw was creamy and very fresh tasting. My mates chicken strips were crispy and delicious.
We will be back."

July 2008 — "We have visited Barb's Place on Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria several times before and always enjoyed our fish and chips. Our visits have always been during the slower season but we realized on this visit that they certainly have lots of visitors during the summer. We waited in line and ordered one haddock meal and one halibut meal. We were given a pager and were actually able to find a shaded seat even though many people were awaiting their meals as well. It took about half an hour for our food but there are enough things on Fisherman's Wharf to keep you entertained. Both fish and chip meals were delicious and worth the wait. The one piece haddock fish and chip meal is under ten dollars. Aside from fish and chips, they offer other seafood meals, burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips and other side orders. And our drinks came with free refills. Even with so many patrons, they were still able to keep the picnic tables clean and condiment containers well stocked. We will visit Barb's again but probably not at lunch time on a Saturday in the summer. "

"Food a bit disappointing, Great location"

July 2008 — "This fish and chip restaurant was recommended to us by our B&B hostess, as well as in a couple of guide books, so we had high expectations. Unfortunately my own personal expectations were not really met. Firstly our food was not served in newspaper but in plastic baskets, not such a big deal I guess. The fish and chips were okay but not anything special, maybe even a little tired and soggy and they were perhaps a little over priced. However, the restaurant is in a great location near all the floating houses and houseboats and is in effect a floating place itself. The counter ordering service was traditional, but the means of telling your food was ready very novel. We were given a pager, which buzzed at the appropriate moment, which I thought was simple but brilliant. Soft drinks were available to accompany the food and we had conversation with other visitors as we shared one of the large tables that were available. I would recommend not having high expectations of the fish and chips if you visit this place. "

June 2008 — "Barb's doesn't offer the best fish & chips around but the location is hard to beat and for that, it is a good dining option. Located at Fisherman's Wharf, a tiny area on Victoria's Inner Harbour that features a floating village and an eclectic mix of houseboats, Barb's is a casual, fast-food stand with counter service and tables under an outdoor covered area, complete with red-checkered table cloths. We were there during the summer, which meant high season, but we only had to wait five or ten minutes to order and were able to find a table immediately, most likely because we were there in the evening. Everyone in my party had some sort of fish & chips and although they weren't the best I've had, the friendliness of the staff and the location means I wouldn't hesitate to return."
