October 2009 — "It was our friends' 40th wedding anniversary. We wanted to take them some place new. A couple in our group said that seafood was good at Mimo's. I checked the website and I saw that they serve "paella". The celebrants (esp. the husband) loves paella. So we ordered paella (w/lots of seafood) for four and ordered BBQ chicken, beef medallion, and pork chops. We had more than enough for eight of us to share. We also shared a couple of appetizers before the meal. We enjoyed our food. When we got our bill, we were pleasantly surprised. With all that food, two bottles of wine, a couple of desserts and some coffee - we paid less than $45 per head grats included. The friendly service and the ambiance were great. We were there to enjoy our evening so we did not mind waiting a bit longer for our food. We will be back."

August 2009 — "A bit hidden and hard to find is Mimo’s restaurant. Located on 17th ave SE behind a small Vietnamese strip mall. We arrived on a Friday night and was surprised to find a nearly empty restaurant. At least this meant a quite outing and quick service. We were greeted by the waitress who was enthusiastic and helpful in helping us to determine what to order. Since it was our first time here, she walked us through a couple of her recommendations that turned out nicely. We ordered the steak in tomato sauce, barbecued chicken and the sole. I was a little disappointed that after we ordered we had to wait for quite some time. I think it was close to 45 minutes before our food arrived. However, when it actually did come, the food was not too bad. A lot of the dishes arrived with slices of potatoes around the dish, like big pieces of round French fries. It was a good experience to try some different food, but unfortunately the portions sizes were on the small and the prices a little on the high side at about $16 dollars per dish."

July 2009 — "This restaurant is a bit strange. I came into the restaurant with a group of friends on a Friday night and the place was empty. It was about 5 minutes before we saw anyone or the waitress realized that anyone was in the restaurant. It was also really loud next door, and it turned out that this restaurant is actually split into a restaurant and bar area. We ordered an assortment of dishes between the 6 of us and decided to share. It took almost an hour from when we ordered to receive the food. But in all fairness, the waitress did let us know that all the food was prepared fresh when we order it so it takes time for everything to come out. We tried the squid, the cod, bbq chicken, snails, salt and pepper chicken wings, Portuguese style steak and pork chops. The squid, pork chops, bbq chicken and steak were all enjoyable dishes but the squid was definitely the best. This was a different kind of experience since we never actually had Portuguese food before. The price including drinks came to about $27 per person. I wouldn’t say I’d highly recommend this place but it is worth a try if you want to experience something different. "

Management Response:
"Dear Susan, First off I would sincerely like to apologize for the wait that you and your group had to wait. Normally we have staff waiting and ready to serve on both sides; however there are always mistakes that occur and which always leave more room for improvement. Thank you for all your kind and honest words. We appreciate them more then you will know. I am thrilled to hear that the squid was your favourite dish. We strive on our authenticity to make the customer fall in love with what Portugal has to offer. Also i know i can be a bothersome when the food takes longer than a hockey period. But my family and i would like to say that we love to serve everyone as if they were part of our extended family and that you and your friends came to visit. The freshness of food and the manner in which it was serve are very important attributes in our culture and it shows respect between both parties. Also when food is served on platters and not individual plates it symbolizes the unity of friends and family and that we are all equal and united. I remember your group because I was the one that served your table. It was a delight and as i have previously mentioned thank you for your honesty. Sometimes it is easier to write how enjoyable an experience was then to explain it. I hope to see you again. Cheers, "

July 2009 — "My friends and I decided to head to this Portuguese style eatery after hearing another friend say how much he wanted to try it out. We’re thinking of making it a monthly thing where we go try different style foods to broaden our horizons, so to speak. When we first entered, we were quite skeptical as there was no one in there and we thought the place was closed. I guess we entered through a not commonly used side as there appears to be a lounge on the other side which sounded like a party was in full swing. We asked the waitress what her recommendations were and she encouraged us to look at the menu before offering her favorites. We decided that each of us (there were 6) would pick a dish and share as a group. We ended with a variety of dishes, from fish, to squid, steak, chicken, and a few others. Every dish had fries on the side and is meant as one serving. It was definitely different and I do appreciate the waitress telling us everything is freshly made so would take longer than typical. Unfortunately, I have to say that it was just alright. I was expecting more, what I’m not sure. I left the night feeling full, but not satisfied. Looking back, the price was decent as we had two starters, some drinks and 6 plates working to about $28/person. I’m not sure if I’d go back though. Maybe I’ll give it a second chance. "
