January 2012 — "The name caught my eye. It seemed odd that Thai Tai was Vietnamese. For less than ten bucks I ordered the Sate Beef Noodle Soup. It arrived in two foam take out containers, one for the soup, and another for a heapin' helpling of noodles, tomato and more. It was definitely a good-sized soup. I was impressed with the flavour. Even though I could have added a variety of sauces that were supplied with the meal, I didn't add a thing as it tasted great just the way it arrived. Plenty of noodles and big chunks of beef made this soup an excellent choice. However, plastic utensils and foam containers for eat-in customers just seems wrong in 2012! Thai Tai has a fairly extensive menu of subs, rolls, and soups, and some combo dinners as well with almost everything costing less than 10 bucks. With real plates and utensils I would give this place two thumbs up. Be aware though, that there are no tables, just stools along a bar against one wall. "

"Holy Crap! It's Huge!"

September 2011 — "A friend suggested I try a sub here, after he had gone in before and was pleased. I went with him and looked over the extensive menu and settled on a Buddha Veggie sub (tofu based). The sub was ready in a few short minutes and I asked for them to put "everything" on it. Obviously, there are a lot of things that did not go onto it, including this computer and your computer. No matter, I wouldn't have eaten either one anyway. I opened up my sub back at the office and it was more like a boat, rather than a sub. It was very large and it was certainly a meal. Flavours were great and I really enjoyed it. My friend ended up opening up a beef sub, instead of the chicken sub he ordered. Oh well."

"My favorite quick bite!"
Image

Save Review

July 2011 — "This is such a little gem in the city. I know there are a chain of Thai Tai's around Calgary. But for a quick bite to eat, I am always satisfied after eating at this Vietnamese place. I especially love the pineapple and beef submarine, packed full with carrots, cilantro, onions, cheese and special creamy sauce that pleases my taste buds. The bread is quite thick and crunchy so it can sometimes be hard to eat the whole sandwich, but little by little, you can finish its tasty goodness. I also suggest the avocado bubble tea for a thick and refreshing drink. There are also a number of other bubble teas to enjoy. But be warned that the Thai Tai in downtown gets very packed on a Friday and Saturday night once people are out from the bars, they love to get a quick snack at this place. The prices are also very reasonable and the subs are large so they will fill you up. "

"Great subs at a great price! "

July 2011 — "I love Vietnames subs. Most Vietnamese restaurants only offer chicken or beef as an option, so when I found Thai Tai, I pretty much fell in love. I really like the location on Centre Street in China Town. The service is great and it is always clean and the food always delicious and fresh! There are so many kinds of subs to choose from. I love the beef pineapple sub and like how you get to choose your own toppings. You can choose from carrots, onions, cucumber, hot Thai chilis, hot sauce, cilantro, and special Thai sauce. Your bun goes through the toaster with the cheese and meat, and then they add the fresh toppings. It's basically like an exotic version of Subway! For around $6 a sub, you can't go wrong. They also offer plenty of other choices like soup as well as vermicelli, spring rolls, salad rolls and even bubble tea. I can honestly say I have never had anything other than a sub though. They are too good to pass up! "

"Best Vietnamese Subs in town! "

May 2011 — "Thai Tai has been a rapidly growing food chain here in Calgary for about two years. I keep seeing new locations popping up everywhere. If you are a fan of Vietnamese subs then you simply must try Thai Tai. You will be hooked and probly end up never going anywhere else for a sub ever again. Its very interesting because they have over 20 different subs to choose from and many many toppings to fill them with. My Favorite is the Pineapple Sautee Beef sub, which you cant really find anywhere else (trust me ive looked! ) The subs are made quick and fresh right in front of you. Sort of a simuliar process as Subway or Mr. Sub. You can dine in or out. But its all very fast. My second favorite is the Satee Shrimp which you can make spicey or not. I prefer spicey. Yum! I havent tried all the subs but I will keep going back til I have. I am a devoted Thai Tai fan, and if you havent tried it yet you should! The employees are all very friendly and the resturants all cleanly, and nice to go inside. Excellent service. Ive never been dissapointed! Great resturant chain that is exploding all over the place. :) You will never go back to any other place. Its the place to be !"

"Big Bowls"

January 2011 — "Having never heard of Thai Tai before, I was happy to visit the restaurant with a friend after they suggested it simply because it has the word “Thai” in it. I have had good luck with Thai food in Calgary before and Thai Tai did not disappoint. Apparently, the chain now has four restaurants in Calgary. My friend usually gets take-out but we sat down for our meal. The restaurant is a bit Spartan but its relatively clean and not too busy since most customers do take-out. Service speed is relatively good. We choose from the “Bowls” menu. I had #25, combo #1 served with vermicelli, chicken, sate beef and spring roll. At $8.50 I initially thought it was a bit expensive but after tasting it and barely finishing it, I realize that it’s totally worth the price. It comes with an array of self serve sauces. The spring rolls were especially crisp and tasty. Whether for dine in or take-out I recommend trying Thai Tai."

"One around the corner"

May 2010 — "After coming back to Calgary after a year, Thai Thai seems to have taken over the city. It's all over the place, but the one that I went to try is on Centre Street in Chinatown. The proportions, I must say are fairly impressive. And not because I eat small, I have a pretty big appetite and it was very satisfying. The food was really good and I would have never thought so, but I would eat again and with the convenience, it makes it that much better. I had a vietnamese bowl with beef, while my friend had chicken. Very yummy and flavourful. I thought the beef was especially good because I think there was an onion in between the beef, so there was a bit of sweetness and crunch to the bite. Presentation was nice too because it was on a stick and resting on top of the bowl. I give it two thumbs up. By the end of the meal I was quite satisfied and I am sure you will be too! "

July 2008 — "I work downtown, so I've eaten at Thai Tai a few times. Their sub sandwiches are really good. They're a good size too, so they should fill you up. My favourite is the Lemon grass chicken sub. Thai Tai gets really busy during the lunch hour. So if you have a short lunch break, be prepared to spend most of it waiting in line. "

"Better Luck Across the Street"

May 2007 — "If the thought of wanting to try better food ever crosses your mind and you've been disappointed and/or never been wowed by Thai Tai, I suggest you cross the street (if you're at the 17 Avenue location) and try Kim Anh Subs. Although a smaller sub and bubbletea store, they've been open longer than Thai Tai. Cheaper and also tastier!"

May 2007 — "I gave Thai Thai a bad review several months ago. Well, I went back and this time it was way better. I ordered the Chicken Sate sub with all the toppings (cilantro, carrots, cucumber, hot Thai peppers) but no hot sauce. It was very fresh and tasty, and I'd definitely consider going back. Maybe I caught them on a bad day the first time around."

"Consistently Disappointed"

September 2006 — "I've give this place a try a couple of times now and am consistently disappointed. Why oh why don't I just got the Viet-West for sub? The prices are good at Thai Tai, but I feel sick afterward. I've narrowed it down to the fake-butter they put on the bread. If I try there again, I'll ask them to not put that spread on it. The other thing is that the bread is not that good, there's too much of it and it is not crusty enough. I don't think they'll suffer from a poor review though. This place is lined up out the door at lunch time."

"Not the Best"

August 2006 — "I work right near Thai Tai and have been a couple of times in the past few months. I am never overly dissatisfied, but I'm never wowed by the food. I have gotten the Beef Sate Sub and thought it didn't compare to Viet-West, where I usually get them. Plus, I felt sick after I ate it. Then I got the Wor Won Ton Soup, which was okay but nothing special. The prices were a bit high compared to other Vietnamese take-out restaurants. With the large slection of better restaurants in the downtown area, I don't think I will be going to Thai Tai again soon. "
