October 2011 — "Having afternoon tea at the Empress Hotel may be one of my favorite experiences. A lovely way to spend your afternoon, you are treated to a regal time where the conversation and tea flow. With a wide selection of teas, there is something for everyone, including myself, as I only drink fruit flavored teas ( they have a lovely Berry tea) and they classic blend, to greens and blacks all exclusive to them. The three tiered delivery of food is both presentation and taste. Plus if you find yourself craving more, the staff is happy to indulge you bringing more of your favorites you have just enjoyed. There is never a rush to leave, and you can get comfy in both the seating and ambiance. I highly recommend you take the chance to enjoy high tea."

Guests are seated and then treated to a tiered tray of savory and sweet finger foods, from cucumber sandwiches to rich pastries. Tea is a special Empress Blend. The atmosphere is high-class with dress code in effect. Reservations are required.

Annual Festival of Trees

Every year the Empress hotel plays host to more than 100 Christmas trees decorated by various companies and associations from around the city. These organizations, by having a tree in the festival, sponsor and help raise funds for the BC Children's Hospital. Visitors can stroll through the trees from mid-November through January.
