January 2012 — "I visited Nellie's last night with my mom, simply because there was a parking spot outside. I've avoided the restaurant, assuming that because of its convenient location on Wharf Street that it was a tourist trap; and by that I mean terrible food at high prices. Well, the prices are on the high end but the food was top quality last night. We had steamed mussels and clams to share in a white wine broth. I could have eaten a whole bowl of just the broth. The shellfish was perfectly fresh and cooked to tenderness -- no chewiness here. Then had Tower 1, which was a three-tiered plate stand with more steamed clams and mussels, two jumbo prawns, five raw oysters on the half shell, five inside-out maki rolls and pan seared albacore tuna. This was around $32 and would be a perfect for sharing as a starter for two to four people. I enjoyed mine as a meal and was not quite satisfied but then you could always have dessert! The seafood was perfectly fresh again and enjoyed each tender bitefull. My mom had the cod, which was also fresh and juicy, served with steamed carrots and green beans and white rice with a creamy caper sauce. Looking around at the other plates, the presentation was impressive. The atmosphere is dressy-casual and reminded me of a Moxies or Earls--nothing fancy but pleasant all the same. Our server was attentive and pleasant and genuine. I would definitely return and recommend this restaurant to others."

"Definitely Fishy at Nautial Inspired Restaurant"

August 2011 — "Nautial Nellie's certainly stays true to its name in it's theme. Giant aquariums contribute to the decor, as well as many other nods to the sea. Given the type of restaurant, we chose the seafood side over the steak. To start we ordered a simple sushi dish as we were hungry. Unfortunately, there was no flavor to the sushi, so it would definitely be a pass for me. The main course was much better though. My husband ordered the seafood linguine and was genuinely impressed by the variety of seafood in his dish. I had the stir fry, and while it was very good, there spicy scale tends toward the hot side. I only ordered level one spice, and I could feel it. Overall we had a nice time, and could definitely understand the popularity of Nautical Nellie's."

"Wow!"

December 2009 — "This is by far the best seafood restaurant I have experienced. Located next to the Victoria Inner Harbour wharf, I was able to sit and watch boats in the harbour and pedestrians stroll around the waters edge. It was close to sunset and the ambiance in the restaurant was lovely; soft lighting, warm woods, and jazz. I ordered the Seafood Trio, a wonderful medley of prawns with a sweet chili glaze; bourbon soaked barbequed halibut; and a ginger and lemongrass salmon. Wow, the person who came up with this mixture was/is brilliant! The meal cost me $27.50 and was worth every single penny. I drank a Pale Ale along with my meal, and followed it with a tasty strudel with BC blueberries and Lindt white chocolate for $7.50. The total cost was $41. My server was very thoughtful and was skillful and discrete when checking in and I never felt rushed to move along to let others in. This restaurant seems to consistently receive great reviews and I have to agree - I would highly recommend this wonderful little restaurant as a place to experience some of the most interesting preparations of seafood in British Columbia."

"Cozy Seafood & Oysterbar"

October 2009 — "At this intimate little seafood restaurant and oyster bar, we had to choose from a fantastic selection of fresh oysters - more than ten varieties! They come from inlets up and down the B.C. and Washington state coastal areas. Our table overlooked Victoria's Inner Harbor where we watched an endless parade of seaplanes landing. Back to the oysters... fresh, delicious and well priced - 12 for a buck a shuck. Also tempting were the other starters: green curry cream mussels with garlic toast, mussels and clams in garlic and white wine, sesame crusted Albacore tuna tataki, crab cakes and Dungeness crab with 3 cheese dip. We tried the lobster sandwich; great, the basic burger; good, and the mixed seafood grill; not spectacular. Some of it was overcooked and indelicate. But it was lunch, maybe dinner's version is spectacular. We liked the selection wines and cocktails and the service was great."

"A Popular Place"

September 2009 — "Nautical Nellies is on Wharf Street and according to many locals is one of the more popular places to have a nice dinner. We decided to splurge and made reservations. The evening lighting was just bright enough to allow for good vision, but still giving the room a romantic quality. We started with a big plate of appetizers called the Tasting Tower. It was delicious and a lot of fun to share. It made for good conversation as we nibbled our way through the plate. (sesame crusted tuna tataki, lobster, shrimp and prawn cocktail, scallops, jalapeno chutney, coconut curry prawns etc.) I tried the Seafood Trio for $27.50 and it was awesome. It consisted of prawns glazed with sweet chili, barbecued halibut, and lemon grass ginger salmon. Combined with the appetizers, it was quite the taste sensation. I had a Pale Ale to wash it all down and then somehow managed to lift my body and get it back to the hotel. Lots of fun! Give it a try. "

"Great Food by the Harbour"

Save Review

July 2009 — "We were out walking around downtown Victoria. We wanted a place with a patio but it was a little cool and looked like rain. Nautical Nellies did have an outdoor patio but the waiter pointed out that he had a table in the sunshine that was facing the harbour. We took it. The waiter was very helpful and suggested some menu items to us. There was alot to choose from. Being a seafood restaurant there were many different fish dishes as well as steak. We decided to start with the calamari. It was fabulous. Instead of rings like you usually get this was cut in slices and served with a spicy thai sauce. Highly recommend it. So much so that we had two orders and decided to try more appetizers rather than have an entree each. We tried the flatbread with dip and a shrimp roll. Both were very good. I commented that my mojito was a little small and not the best one that I had had. The waiter asked me to trust him and came back with a Pimms Cup. Never had one before but will have one again. Overall the experience at the restaurant was fantastic and should we be in the neighbourhood again, we will definitely go back. Make this one a place to eat when in Victoria. "

"Good Seafood, fabulous rustic bread"
Image

Save Review

July 2008 — "This little place, close to the harbour and waterfront and opposite the old Customs House building in Victoria was a good choice for us as we were able to sit outside in the patio dining area and enjoy a delicious meal in a pleasant environment. We ordered a spinach, walnut, feta and cranberry salad, calamari and freshly baked rustic bread loaves. The food was delicious, the bread was to die for and we all agreed that although we had ordered two loaves between four we could all have eaten one each and not because they were small but they were so good. The wait staff were friendly, although I found it hard to keep track as it felt like we had four or five different people helping us in the space of an hour, but it did not detract from a great dining experience. A couple of beers helped to wash the tasty food down and we were fully ready to stroll off the excesses."
