May 2009 — "I have never been to a trendy Japanese restaurant before but that is how I would describe Sen Zushi. There were no tatami mats or low tables and the setting was very open. When we walked in we were shown to our table and given menus. The waitress came back a few minutes later for our drink orders and thought that we would be ready to order our food as well. My friend is not familiar with Japanese food so I needed to take some time to explain what everything was. We settled on dynamite rolls and yam tempura to start. The yam tempura was the best i have ever had, sliced very thin and crispy. The dynamite rolls were fresh but were sliced very thin making it difficult to pick them up and dip them with chopsticks. I am a practiced chopstick user but even I lost some of my roll in the soya dip. We followed with a sesame fried chicken dinner and the ginger pork. The chicken was excellent but I think I would pass on the ginger pork. Our dinners came with the typical mizo soup and green salad with a bowl of rice. I think that the food was priced well for what we got. The service was good and if you don't have much time to eat Sen Zushi will be a good place to go. "

May 2009 — "While Victoria is a mecca of culinary delights, finding great sushi here has not been easy - especially for a transplant from Vancouver, where great sushi at good prices is abundant. Having eaten at Sen Zushi last night, I can truly say my search for fabulous sushi is over.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated, and makes you feel you are about to have a very special dining experience. Simple black tables are adorned with red silk runners in a Japanese print, while lovely crockery holds condiments: soy sauce & schichimi (a Japanese pepper-based seasoning). The walls have beautiful Japanese prints for decor, and tables are separated by gossamer curtains which give diners a feeling of privacy without closing up the open feel of the space. It's a perfect setting for a romantic dinner, or a quiet meal amongst friends.
The menu is impressive, offering far more than the usual sushi fare. While you will find your favorite rolls and nigiri here, the daily fresh sheet offers something for the more adventurous palate. While I am not a vegetarian myself, I was also impressed to notice several out of the ordinary rolls for my veg friends, who usually have to settle for variations on avocado, cucumber, and yam.
We ordered our staples: tuna & salmon sashimi, several nigiri, and an array of rolls. We also had an order of their meat gyoza and miso soup. The fish was the superstar, and set this sushi head & tails above any we had had before. Their sashimi comes generously proportioned and more gleaming-fresh than I can describe. The salmon is wild and delicate, the tuna subtle and meaty, and tai tasted right out of the ocean. The rolls were considerately sliced small & thin, making them not only tasty but also easy to eat. The spicy tuna rolls, one of my favorites, was by far the best I have ever had. Both my companion & I remarked that we would order everything we had over again, although the menu has too many intriguing choices to stick to our usual every time.
This isn't the cheap sushi we were used to getting in Vancouver, but it certainly is the best we have had. We are hearty eaters, and our bill came to just under $60 for 4 rolls, a large sashimi, gyoza and 2 miso soups - and it was worth every penny.
The staff also bears mention, as seldom have I witnessed or experienced better service than we did here. From the warm hostess who made us feel we were VIPs even without a reservation, to the sushi chefs who shouted out boisterous greetings & thanks when we arrrived & departed, to our most friendly & attentive waitress, we couldn't have been more welcome. July 2008 — "Sen Zushi is a real treat. The restaurant itself is both beautiful and welcoming. Japanese paintings and art pieces create an elegant look to the place. The tables are separated from one another by sheets of sheer fabric, giving the feeling of privacy. The staff are friendly and helpful. The menu is quite extensive. So many choices! The miso soup is so tasty with pieces of seaweed and tofu. I ordered a spicy tuna temaki and Piano scale roll. They were beautifully presented and served on stunning pottery of rich colours. The tuna was so delicious, perfectly spiced! The piano roll was a vegetarian blend of cucumber, sprouts, a type of cooked gourd with avocado ontop. Yum yum yum. My friend also ordered a variety of rolls, so there were plenty of great flavours to enjoy. Our meals were between $15- $20. Well worth it. The food tasted so good and we felt comfortably satiated afterwards. If you like sushi, this place is worth checking out for yourself."

June 2008 — "As the title mentions, I love this place! The food is consistently excellent! Some friends introduced me to this restaurant. They found they never had to go anywhere else for sushi because it was so good. Sometimes, people tell me how amazing a place is and I go only to be let down...but this is not the case here.
The night a few of us met up for dinner, it was packed, which I took as a good sign! I ordered the vegetable roll sushi, miso soup, vegetable gyoza, and the spicy tuna roll. The rice portions aren't too big which I appreciated and you get a choice of having the gyoza's deep-fried or pan-fried. I had a spicy tuna roll and it was not full of a mayonnaise sauce (that some of them come with) and had the perfect blend of spices. I was surprised at the amount of vegetables in the vegetable rolls and the portions were generous. The food does take a bit of time but it's well worth the wait!"

February 2008 — "For Valentines Day, me and my boo had dinner at Sen Zushi and we were both so glad we did. Everything about the place was a delight from the Japanese entranceway and traditional decor to the friendly staff and great food.
We started with a nice warm bottle of Sake, ideal on a cold February day. The meal began shortly after with vegetable tempura—nothing too amazing—but it wasn't until the rolls and sashimi made their entrance that the true splendor of this meal was realized. The sashimi was delicate and tasted fresh, the rolls were nicely constructed—not to tight, not too loose and just enough rice—and the spicy tuna was by far the best I have ever had.
It got pretty pricey but good sushi is well worth it."
