December 2009 — "Every time I eat at Il Terazzo, it reminds me of why this restaurant has been one of Victoria's most celebrated eateries for so many years. Even in a competitive dining scene, with spoiled palates to please, Il Terazzo remains one of the finest places to eat.
The space is simply beautiful, boasting soaring ceilings, brick walls, and an abundance of natural light flooding in the many windows. The decor is elegant and stays true to both the Italian theme and the heritage nature of the building. Antique-looking wall sconces scatter across the walls, and enormous iron chandeliers dangle above heavy tables of worn wood. There is a stunning outdoor courtyard with a fireplace easily visible through the windowed wall on one side.
I have never had lunch here, usually reserving my Il Terazzo experiences for special occasion dinners. It's hard to imagine how many proposals have happened here. The lunch menu offers lighter fare, along with some dinner menu favourites. I ordered the Linguine con Pancetta, a creamy pasta rich with smoky bacon and artichokes cut with fresh arugula. My partner had the Insalata special from the fresh sheet, beautiful greens paired with a skewer each of prawns and salmon. Her sister ordered the soup & sandwich special, hot & soup prawn soup with a proscuitto, arugula, and cheese panini. The food was simply delicious and heart-warming, and washed down nicely with glasses of Prosecco. Priced reasonably at $10-15 per entree, lunch here is a guilt-free indulgence."
Northern Italian cuisine is served here. Come for a romantic meal in the heated courtyard. Open Monday to Saturday from 11:30pm to 11pm and 5pm to 11pm on Sundays.
