"Great Happy Hour Patio"

May 2011 — "Came here for happy hour with some co-workers not too long ago, and was pleasantly surprised by its combination of fantastic service and a very diverse menu. Without a doubt the big draw in coming here was the promise of $7 glasses of Sangria. The Sangria here was so good my coworkers and I quite literally drank the house dry. From there we began sampling the menu and drinking some of the fantastic Quebecois micro-brews Laurier carries. A co-worker and I split the house burger and a side of poutine. In hindsight, I could have done without the burger and had the poutine all to myself. Keep in mind the burger was fine, but it was the perfect mix of real curds and ample gravy that made the poutine a keeper. The service here was also top-notch. Our waitress let us know ahead of time when the Sangria was running dry, and was more than willing to offer up suggestions on what to try when that would inevitably run out."

"Great Food - Poor Customer Service"

Save Review

April 2011 — "My girlfriend and I went to the Lauier Lounge for dinner last night. We were warmly greeted by the the hostess who promptly seated us. Our waiter then came to our table. As he poured our water, I asked him how his night was going. He didn't even look at me or respond. Thoughout the course of our dinner, he maybe said four words to us. The food, however, was delicious. I had the Warren Buffet burger and poutine. In my opinion, good food will only get your restaurant so far. Customers, such as myself, expect a positive experience when dining out. Customer service is a large part of the experience. I realize that maybe our server wasn't having a good night, but he could have at least tried to be friendly. I know I will go to the Laurier Lounge again because the food was so delicious. I just hope that I get a better server."

"Amazing experience"

June 2010 — "As a native Calgarian, this ranks as one of my VERY FAVORITE places in Calgary. I can't understand how anyone could give this place a poor review. First off the ambiance is amazing, it is probably the most romantic restaurant in Calgary. The staff are more than accommodating, my wife is very picky and every time we have visited, they have customize both her meal and her drinks. (and if she didn't like the first drink, they would try again until they found her something she liked) The prices are a little steep, but their burger ($15) is one of the best anywhere... A hand made patty of pure fillet mignon) exchange the fries for poutine (i think it cost us $4 more) and this meal is large enough to feed 2 of us... plus we possibly have room for their amazing Bernard Callebaut desert fondue. (Heavenly... all their fondues are excellent, and I think on Sundays and most holidays they have specials making costs a little more affordable)"

"great drinks!"

April 2010 — "Three of us dropped in for a bite and a few cocktails on a Saturday night(heard the new cocktail list was awesome), the restaurant was completely full..good sign. the manager/bartender came from behind the bar and offered a seat at the bar until a table became free. After a few amazing cocktails, we decided to stay put. We sampled a few tequila cocktails, all were fresh and unique. not typically a tequila drinker, but these were delicious!!! although the bartender was very busy...he was attentive and took time to suggest items we might enjoy. All suggestions were well received by all. Wine pairings, tapas and drinks...wow...well done. I was a bit miffed at the disjointed rather large menu, but we were well guided towards the bartenders favorites, and we were very happy with the choices. Great conversation, great time in general. This bartender knows his stuff...a true mixologist. He even made a number of fresh fruit puree martini's and cocktails that were not on the menu...we had to try a few...wow is all I can say. Unfortunately two gentlemen sat beside us at the bar, drunk, rude and crass towards my two female friends...not fun.Found out from the hostess it was the owner and a friend.Too bad, not a great representation. We will all return for fun cocktails and tapas, and more great conversation with the bartender, an honest and engaging host. "

"Big Dissapointment"

November 2009 — "I wanted to throw a nice early christmas party for a girlfriend of mine who was about to leave for Australia for three months. I booked the private room. When I arrived there, we were put in their dining room upstairs. When I mentioned to the server that we were supposed to be in a private room, she mentioned that if a larger party wants the private room, we would get bumped. I obviously was not please with this, and asked to speak to the manager. The manager then explained that there was "nothing he could do," and it is policy (which was not explained to me when we booked the private room). He actually gave me some attitude when he was speaking with me as well. Needless to say, with staff like that, I am never going back. Neither are the 10 people that joined the party. Never. "

"Best Burger in Town"
Image

Save Review

June 2009 — "Noticed on the menu they claimed the 'best burger in town' so we had to test it. I had the sesame chicken salad and my husband had the burger. My salad was amazing but nothing compared to his burger. It is true to its claim. Service was exceptional and we had a great table on the deck. The view isn't much but it's nice to be on a patio that doesn't face a main street. Prices were fair for the meal sizes but exceptionally good for the quality."

"Save your money...don't go !"

February 2008 — "Five of us went on a Friday nite. We were seated at a 'U' shaped table and were attended to right away for our drink order. We all ordered the "Fondu Experience", at $45 each. The bread and cheese fondu was served first. Two fondu pots and two baskets of cubed bread. We were each given a plate with a baked potato, salad and baked tomato. ONE pot of oil, and two very small plates of beef strips shaped in a mound (small) on each plate, were placed on the table. The potatoes and tomatoes were cold. And, once again, I couldn't reach either small plate of beef without disturbing the people on either side or reaching over their plates. I complained about the food on our plates being cold and about 20 minutes later, we were all brought a new plate of a potato and tomato. One pot, 10 forks. The oil would never get hot enough to cook the beef. Not once did we see a 'manager' to even offer an "I'm sorry your food was cold". The set up would have been MUCH better with at least two pots of oil, and perhaps separate dishes with the raw beef. After all, we WERE paying separately. When asked if "that was all we were going to get for $45", the server quickly brought another small plate of beef. We all didn't feel this would have happened if we hadn't "complained". At the end of the evening, we each got a very small glass of wine...on the house."

November 2007 — "I wasn't sure what to expect judging by the reviews here but was more than pleasantly surprised once I got to the Laurier Lounge. The service was great - they were busy and we had no reservation but they fit us in at a nice table. The atmosphere was great - nice music playing at a comfortable volume. Although the next table was very close I still felt that we could have a private conversation and didn't overhear anyone elses. The food was great...both in taste and presentation. The prices are a bit higher than I'd like them to be but at the same time, they are fair and pretty standard. Our server was professional, friendly and attentive but not at all intrusive. I will definitely be found dining there again."

"Fabulous!!!!"

November 2007 — "I have dined at the Laurier lounge about 7 times and i have to say i have been happy with every visit. This place has to have the best coquille st jacques on this planet, along with a fabulous mojito (they are actually generous with the mint). On Mondays they have poutine, french music, french beer, and an eclectic crowd. I will certainly make "French Monday's" part of my routine. It's nice to have a restaurant in this city that has such original and funky decor....reminiscent of two restaurants i adore (one in Montreal and the other in Copenhagen). So far i can definitely recommend the following: Coquille St. Jacques, Lobster ravioli, Montreal Hambourgeois, poutine, cheese fondue, and lemongrass prawns. "

"Truly an original!"

August 2007 — "My experience at Laurier Lounge was amazing. I dined there with a few friends and one was from California - she commented that there was no restaurant like it in Calilifornia and wished she could take it with her. Everything was fantastic from the greeting at the door to our server, the food and most of all - the ambience. I dine out a lot and most restaurants have the same feel, but not Laurier Lounge - it really is an original, not a cookie cutter restaurant that so many are becoming like in Calgary. I can't believe people when they say that $38 is expensive for a 3 course dinnner - where do these people eat? Also, the red house wine is very good and complements the food very well. I met the owner, Kyle Wheeler, and he goes above and beyond the regular duties of an owner. He has been in the restaurant industry since he was a "kid" and mostly worked as a server in fine dining restaurants and the extent of his experience has made him the kind of owner he is now. He was greeting, seating, bringing out food & drinks, bussing, cleaning, etc. - he knows his stuff and he knows what people like to eat and drink and that's why it's worth checking out this quaint, one-of-a-kind restaurant. You won't be disappointed. "

"Waste of time and money!"

July 2007 — "The patio was empty and remained like that for the time we were there, but still were not allowed to sit at a bigger table for 2. The food was little for $25.-- per person. Risotto rice that tastes and looked like sweet milk rice, not my choice for salmon....White wine was served in red wine glasses and rose wine turned out to be sparkling wine, not what I had in mind (was not on the menue either). Staff does not have a clue what to serve how... Menue cards look cheap and need improvement for the prices they charge! When you sit rigth next to the entry to the lounge the music is blasting in your ear, and when turned down, is used for the manager to call staff to disguss schedules, so you listen to that instead! Patio needs improvement in regard of flowers, (none in sight!) because you look straight onto a construction site! Service was too slow for the only table on the patio, restaurant was empty too. Overall a negative experience. Too expensive for a lower class joint."

July 2007 — "We have also been enjoying fine dining at the Laurier Lounge since it opened and continue to do so now that it has increased in size at the new location. We have ordered the fondue many times only to refuse the request if we would like additional meat on sevaral of those occasions. Other menu items satisfy equally as much. The French Onion soup is to die for and the grilled ceasar salad is tasstefully done. Anything seafood or meat is wonderful. The owners and staff take great pride in the food and service that they provide and we enjoy being pampered by them. Add that to the great beer selection (including some from Quebec), good wine selection and a good assortment of drinks and I find it hard to believe that anyone would go away unsatisfied. Douglas "

December 2006 — "So sorry you felt ripped off. As a loyal customer since opening I have had the fondue experience many times and never have felt dissapointed. Some facts you may want to know chris is that they do not use oil for their fondues. The beef is cooked in a beef and onion stock. Secondly at $38 dollars per person it is not meant to share for 2 never mind 3 foundues for 6 people! Man you must be cheap! Glad to hear you wont be back chris, its hard enough to get a table there on the wekends and now maybe I'll get a table.!!!!"

"Not recommended."

December 2006 — "We went in as a group of six, ordered the 'Fondue Experience' because two of our party had been there before and really enjoyed this particular menu choice. We ordered three of the 'Fondue Experience' at $38 each, thinking that we'd be filled up (as two of our party had been on a previous visit.) Let me tell you, they served six people as though we were a couple! When asked, we were told that the two must have 'gotten lucky' to have gotten such a large serving on their previous visit. That was the extent of their customer service. The oil tasted as though it were used and should've been discarded, instead of passed on to the table. On the way out, we passed tables of two who had also ordered the 'Fondue Experience', and it was the same serving size as we had for six. Would NOT go to again, not recommended for more than TWO people!"
