A little bit on the expensive side, but really fantastic food.
My wife took me out for lunch at Royal India downtown to the buffet and what a delight.
Its like my favorite kind of food, and I couldn't believe the quality of the food.
For $20 a person for the buffet it better be better quality than the rest!
I enjoyed several plates full and really over did it.
Leaving bloated and dazed. This place gets super packed on weekdays during lunch hour because it is a great place for people to go from the corporate world. They come in big groups and it can be hard to get a table.
It is fancy inside, unlike most East Indian restaurants, and beautifully decorated in and out to catch your eye.
The buffet itself is bigger than most, and sure to satisfy your east indian craving. Superb food, for a little more expensive than you may be used to, worth it trust me. Try it out for yourself! "

"Take the Royal Indian Treatment! "

November 2011 — "We don't get a chance to go to Royal India often, but try to keep it for special occasions.
It is an Indian Restaurant and buffet that is in a class all on its own. Separate from the rest of them all.
Its a step up, from your usual Indian place, and one of our favorites.
There are so many great Indian Restaurants here in town, but this is triple A for sure.
The buffet runs weekdays for lunch only and weekends for lunch and dinner at special times.
Make sure you have your appetite ready. This buffet is a large one.
Although it is more expensive then other places, its is worth every penny you spend, and every button you may pop!!
I must add though, that their butter chicken in the buffet is only average compared to other places I have tried.
This restaurant which is located downtown is a very popular spot during the week for corporate Calgary. Get there before 12 for lunch to ensure your spot today.
Beautifully decorated throughout. Transform your lunch hour into an Indian Delight!

May 2011 — "Located Downtown between Centre Street and First Street on Fourth Ave Sw is a very Beautiful Indian Restaurant. I was very impressed upon walking into the place. Breathe-taking. The interior is decorated Beautiful and exotic throughout.
I especially love the iron clad Drinking Glasses.
The service can get quite busy during weekday Lunch hours as all the corporates enjoy going there for lunch. The service we received was very minimal, and I find they are defiantly under-staffed. The buffet is all you can eat at $18.95 pp. Which in my opinion is quite expensive for the food they serve. After all it is a Lunch buffet, do they really expect you to be able to eat your Money's worth.
My favorite of course out the whole Buffet was the Butter Chicken. Followed by the dessert Selection. I am in love the their desserts here. Best Rice pudding and Honey balls I have ever had!
They have quite a few different dishes I have never had before, which were all quite tasty. A little bit expensive but when it was all said and done, the restaurant is beautiful and the food was fresh, and really good. "

December 2010 — "I haven't eaten a whole lot if Indian food as I find the menus and the whole experience to be a bit daunting. If you are like me at all, the best way to go is to try an all you can eat buffet. That way, you can try a bit of everything and don't get stuck with something you don't really like. A friend of mine is a big fan of Indian food so we went to Royal India for lunch. The first thing that hits you is the smell! So amazing, and so different! The service was extremely friendly and there was a very authentic feel in the air. I am always one for trying new things, so I really did try a bit of everything. Indian food is like nothing else, and the quality and richness of the sauces and meats was outstanding! I especially liked the butter chicken, fresh naan, tandoori chicken and the vegetable pakora! Everything was delicious. I highly recommend Royal India to anyone wanting to try Indian food for the first time or to those who are very seasoned fans!"

April 2010 — "To be honest I had my doubts when my friends suggested indian food. I expected it to be all too spicy and nothing but curry. The last thing I want would be my clothes smelling like curry. To my surprise I was wrong about everything. I'm never seen such a bit selection in any buffet before. If you're like me and never tried indian food before, you don't know what you're missing. I'm not sure about other indian restaurants, but Royal indian is the place to go to for indian food for sure. My favorite is the butter chicken that you almost have to fight for with everyone else there. Luckily all the refills comes out none stop. Although the price is a little higher, it's around the same as a regular nicer restaurant entree but you'll have so much more selection. The service and decor is really nice too. I'll be back with my family soon. "

May 2009 — "This is one of the best indian buffets that i have been to in Calgary! They have a really large selection of food, which i have not seen in other places. The price was a bit more expensive which was a bit of a shock, but i guess when you have such a large variety of food, you will pay more. The decor was great-loved it. The restaurant was really busy and noisy with the lunch hour rush, but if you go at a different time, you would be able to enjoy the decor more! "
