August 2009 — "The food was excellent - quality, preparation, and flavour. Just had lunch at the restaurant - ordered the Chicken Green Curry a masterful creation of the highest order. The chef (who is Thai) did a fantastic job - using authentic Thai spices and ingredients. I am a big fan of Thai cuisine, so was very pleased with the meal. Great Value!"

March 2008 — "I lived in Thailand for 4 years while attending university. I have gone to many Thai restaurants since returning to Canada. This place is by far the most authentic of any restaurants I've gone to outside of the actual country. If you want "real" Thai food, this is the place!"

January 2008 — "We decided to try Nunchuk Wilai one evening in January for take out, as the place we normally go to for Thai food was closed for the holidays (Bua Thai). My husband was skeptical, but I convinced him to go after reading the two other reviews. The menu is cheaper than Bua Thai and so is the food quality. The spring rolls were the same that you would get from a Chinese restaurant and did not taste homemade, or authentically Thai. My panang curry shrimp were tiny and shrivelled and the curry sauce was very watery, and not flavorful AT ALL! My husband's vegetables with tofu were tired looking and boring (basically tofu with bean sprouts and mushrooms). I could not finish my meal as I was so disapointed and ended up throwing it out. I would rather pay extra and get delicious, tasty Thai food from Bua Thai, than pay less for something that is MUCH poorer quality.

June 2007 — "Spurred on by the previous review of this restaurant, I managed to talk my husband into ordering take-out from Numchok. He is a fries-and-burger kind of guy, so you can guess what our dining out experiences usually consist of. He is not a fan of Thai food, or of trying any type of "new" and "exotic" food, but I whined enough and he caved. We went in to order and the dining room leaves much to be desired. Although extremely clean, it is quite old and dated, with very uncomfortable chairs, and a few tacky posters on the wall. However, that's about the only negative aspect of this restaurant. The food was fabulous! We ordered a Beef Green Curry and the Roast Chicken with hot sauce (my husbands choice, of course) to share, along with a couple orders of Coconut rice. It only took about 10-15 minutes and was well worth the minimal wait. The chicken was so, so good - tender, juicy, fall off the bone and melt in your mouth delicious. The curry was tasty, not too spicy, and the beef was quite tender. My husbands only complaint was that the rice was too sweet, but steamed jasmine rice is also on the menu, so next time we'll know what to order. It was great to see my husband actually enjoy this new eating adventure, and he has agreed that perhaps trying new things is not so scary after all. The total came to about $27, not bad for a satisfying meal for 2. As Thai food is notoriously expensive in this city, I feel this is a pretty good value, considering the quality of the food. We loved it and will absolutely be going back..."

May 2007 — "Do you have a favourite cd? You know, the one you put on when you're not sure what you want to hear? Thai restaurant Numchok Wilai is like that recording, in that no matter what you order on the menu their cuisine is consistently first- rate. After dining in and ordering take out on several occasions I thought it time to spread the word a little.
We often order the same appetizers, fresh shrimp rolls and a spicy lemon grass soup that leads so nicely into the main course. On our last excursion for take out my partner and I both ordered curries. I had the savory Phanang Nuea, a green curry with thinly sliced beef, peppers and green peas. He enjoyed the Kaeng Ped Naw Mai Kai, a red curry with bamboo shoots. Both curries were delightful, and the coconut rice side dishes made overindulging easy.
The only hitch to a really great evening at Numchok Wilai is the dining room. It is plainly decorated with Thai travel posters on white walls. Fluorescent bulbs ensure that diners don't linger, which is too bad because it is such a great spot conveniently located on 124 Street at 106 Avenue kitty corner from the Roxy Theatre.
Its lack of ambiance is more than made up for in the food which I have never been disappointed in. The staff is courteous, helpful and polite. Their take out service is exceptional with meals ready in usually under a half hour, and ample parking at the rear entrance add to your convenience.
I would love for this gem of an eatery to flourish, not only because it's a block away from my home but because it is contributing to a Renaissance on 124 Street. Dinner for two at Numchok Wilai ranges between $30 - $40, with main courses starting at $9.95.
