November 2009 — "I've been hearing about this place for years, but never made it by. It's supposed to have a great breakfast, and maybe it does, but the supper was pretty bad. I'm from an Austrian family, and I've spent a lot of time in Germany so every now and then I get a craving for Schnitzel, but just I don't feel like cooking. Today was one of those day, so we made the trek. There was no Wienerschnitzel on the menu (well there was something called Wienerschnitzel, but made out of pork, which I'm allergic to) so I had chicken breast with mushrooms. I got to watch them put the cold, pre-cooked chicken into the microwave to heat for me. Now, microwaved pre-cooked chicken is not the end of the world, but don't ask me to pay $18 for it! But I did. The Spaetzle, which are normally a type of noodle, was actually some dough that was fried up and kind of scrambled. Also, pretty much uncooked. The red cabbage was OK, but they should have mentioned that it was actually red saurkraut. The best thing on the plate was the garnish. My son had the Zigeuner Schnitzel which is traditionally served with a sauce of bell peppers and tomatoes and is a bit spicy, but again, that's not what he got - he got a burnt (yes, actually black) breaded pork cutlet with no sauce, no peppers, no tomato sauce, which apparently tasted pretty gross. My husband's goulash soup had a thick layer of grease on top and was bland. I didn't even know it was possible to make goulash soup taste bland. The service was fair, but the prices were ridiculous for what we got. I wouldn't recommend this place for supper to anyone. "

August 2009 — "We were lured by the reputation, and impressed by the menu. I had eggs benedict and was satisfied, but my husband's experience was disappointing. When the waiter stopped to ask if everything was good, my husband regretfully pointed out that his sausages were cold and his potato pancakes were undercooked (mushy and cold in the middle). He just said "that's how they're supposed to be" and dismissed us completely. No offer to replace them or to bring toast instead, etc. He did take the plate of sausages and microwave them for a few seconds, but in the end we left feeling completely expendable and disappointed with the food at the price."

"A Taste of Germany"

June 2009 — "It was the sign "Best Eggs Benny" that first lured me into Barb and Ernie's, but once I found myself inside this old country inn, I discovered there was so much more to be offered. The menu displays a "meaty" selection of breakfast items, including schnitzel, bratwurst, and pork chops. Add potato pancakes served with sour cream and apple sauce as an excellent side item. Come early on weekends as the line quickly extends out the front door, but once inside service is efficient, quick and it is well worth the wait. Be ready to be greeted by a cheerful German fellow dressed in traditional lederhosen!"

December 2008 — "Friendly service. Family owned. Always busy there but the line does go down quick. Worth the wait. Best breakfast ever. I've been there many times and I can't recomend any one item over the other. All good! Sometimes it's nice to have a beer and a great breakfast!"

"extremely good breakfast"

October 2008 — "We went to Barb & Ernie’s restaurant for a family breakfast while we were visiting Edmonton. We visited this restaurant due to a strong recommendation from my brother. After reading the sign at the restaurant that stated “best eggs benny” I decided to try them out. They were indeed very good. The portion size was very large (too large for me) and the eggs came with hashbrowns. The atmosphere at this restaurant is that of German design and it really does have a traditional German family restaurant feel to it. The restaurant was very busy but the food was served very quickly. I suggest that you go to this restaurant by 9:30 am if you don’t want to wait for a table. The waitress who was serving us was very friendly. I felt the prices were average for this type of restaurant. The coffee was also very good. I will visit this restaurant again when I am back in Edmonton."

"The Best Eggs Benny!"

October 2008 — "The sign said “Best Eggs Benny” so I was sold before I even looked at the menu. I thought this was an easy decision as I was seated and my coffee mug was filled immediately. As soon as I took a look inside the menu, I soon realized I had to choose from about 8 different types of Eggs Benedict. I chose the Bacon Eggs Benny, and the Hollandaise sauce was made with wine, and was the best I had ever had. The portion was monster, and the eggs were cooked exactly medium, just like I ordered. The traditional German décor inside the restaurant was well put together, and the waitress’ made you feel very welcome. The coffee was refilled more than enough, and I never had to wait too long for anything. I do believe that sign was right, and they were the best eggs benny. I will definitely go back for more next time I’m in Edmonton."
