"50's Diner Classic"

January 2012 — "Diner Deluxe is a affordable, classic 50's diner that is a great spot for breakfast or brunch. I love the 50's feel throughout, and the classic menu items. Home cooked, hot, fresh, farm grown organic eggs and produce. Amazing service, with an affordable pricetag. This little diner can get very busy on Saturday and Sunday mornings. So be prepared for the weekend wait! Get your name on the list, grab a coffee and take your time. I have never gone for dinner but the dinner menu is filled with tasty bites as well. Classic homemade favorites such as mashed potatoes and roast beef aus jus. My favorite is the stuffed french toast with several options as the stuffing. Cream cheese and blueberry is my fave smothered in blueberry syrup, to die for! My husband often orders the farmers breakfast, stacked high with toast, bacon, sausages, eggs, and fruit. A tummy filler for sure, and a great price all around. They don't really have kids menu, but they have small and half orders on most the menu items. Diner Deluxe is one of my favorites and I hope they will stick around for years to come. "

January 2012 — "Diner Deluxe is one of my favorite places to for brunch. It can be very hard to get a table on the weekends but is definitely worth the long wait. I usually just grab coffee and paper, get my name on the list and wait. You need to not be in a rush if planning on brunching here on weekends. They serve up one of the best Eggs benny's in the city. And have quite a few different combinations as well. One of my favorites is the Farmers breakfast which comes loaded with eggs, toast, sausage, bacon, and fruit. And you cant beat the price for this one! The coffee is great brewed strong and free refills. I love the 50's diner throughout. Classic, and fun! Family friendly, my daughter loves coming here. Its our special spot. The food is all bought and grown locally. Organic eggs, bread, cheeses. Its a very tiny place so maybe not the best place to go with a big group and a brunch adventure. Service is always fast and friendly. Sure to be a pleasure for all!"

"Love Diner Deluxe"

September 2011 — "Diner Deluxe is a really neat diner to visit. They have cool retro/old Hollywood decor, and amazing food. We decided to go for lunch and I had the Grilled Cheese with a side of Cream of Tomato soup, and also the Grilled Grapefruit. The grilled cheese was really good! Served on sourdough bread and had 3 kinds of cheese. I chose soup as the side, and is was wonderful. You can really tell that everything is homemade, and that they use quality ingredients. They even make all their own jams and jellies. The grilled grapefruit was nice for a change - I was in the mood to try something different. It is basted with a rosemary syrup. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone, it is one of my favorites."

"Best diner on the block!"

May 2011 — "Diner Deluxe is hard to describe with words. Not only is the atmosphere amazing but everything that comes out of their kitchen is delicious. We had a group brunch there Sunday and it was really nice to have all 7 of us quickly seated and fully accomodated as if we were a smaller group. The options all sound so tastey it was hard for all of us to decide and our server although somewhat impatient at moments handled it well. I ordered their Chai tea latte for the first time and it was amazing -- they even brought it out the already mixed in latte in a little tea pot on top of a tea light to keep the remaining latte that wouldn't fit in my mug warm! I ended up getting the staple eggs, sausage, hashbrowns and toast order but I added a pancake because I didn't think I could resist. What a terrible idea -- not because it wasn't delicious but man was it far too much food. Everyone left very satisfied, so satisfied that I am quite sure we all went home to nap after the exhausting glutton fest we had. "

April 2011 — "It was a rainy day in Calgary and my wife and I decided to sneak off for a breakfast date while our girl was in school. We decided to try something different and my wife had heard good things about this place. What a cool place!! It is like walking into the 50's! Everything is vintage from the tables to the chairs to the light fixtures....even the lights in the bathroom. I had an amazing omelet with hashbrowns and toast. It was so good. My wife had the Maple Fried Oatmeal - let me just say - I am not an oatmeal fan but that stuff is out of this world!! I was very happy that she could only manage to pack back half of it! The service was excellent. Our server was super friendly and you got the feeling that it was just a good place to be weather you are dining or working. I can't wait to go back!"

February 2011 — "Walking into this place is liking stepping back in time with the chairs and tables you used to see at your grandparents home. The decor is full of antique appliances and retro artwork for that nostalgic feeling. The menu was very interesting with everything from maple fried oatmeal with lemon curd and cream to sourdough french toast stuffed with bacon and gouda. I ordered a more conventional vegetable omelette which had farm fresh eggs, spinach, mushrooms, and sun-dried tomatoes. It came with hashbrowns and three pieces of multi-grain toast. The omelette was nice and fluffy. The hashbrowns are the chunky kind with the skin on but they were burnt on one side and raw on the other so I didn't care for the way they were cooked. The toast comes with a home-made jam which this time was blueberry. It was amazing. Don't hesitate to order the Kicking Horse coffee which is always fresh and bottomless. Also, if you go on a weekend, be sure to be there in the first 15 minutes of opening because there was a line-up of 10 people waiting for the doors to unlock at 8:00 this morning and it was -20 out. Obviously this place has loyal customers and friendly service. "

January 2011 — "Diner Deluxe is a fun retro cafe that is always good to go to if you are craving an all day breakfast menu or a lunch or dinner menu. There is a variety of different choices on the menu so there is an option for just about anybody. I quite enjoy the grilled cheese sandwich which comes with 3 different type of cheese and you have an option to add bacon (which is what I usually order), egg, chorizo, tomato, ect. Another favorite of mine here is the baked macaroni with sundried tomato, basil pesto & white cheddar cheese.... delish! The establishment supports local farmers and growers which is huge bonus and they state on the menu that they make almost everything from scratch! They are usually busy but I have never had to wait longer than 15 minutes in my experiences there.... It is well worth the wait. The service has always been great and I have overall enjoyed all 3 times that I have dined here. I would definitely recommend it to others. "

June 2010 — "Visited Diner Deluxe for the first time today. I had the Canada Bacon Eggs Benedict. The hash browns were cold. The waitress very quickly brought me another plate, unfortunately this time much of the hash browns were burnt. The waitress offered to replace them again but by that time my husband was well into his meal and I was hungry so I said no. The Eggs Benedict was served on 1 piece of bread rather than a muffin which is what I expected. My husband had the beef burger. He says the freshness of the ingredients (lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, back bacon and the bun ) was great, but the beef patty itself was bland. The service was great, but only half of restaurant was filled so we are not sure if that is constant. Waitress very friendly."

"Best Breakfast in Calgary!"

November 2009 — "I went for breakfast at the Edmonton Trail location of Diner Deluxe for the first time even though I live close by. I would always be put off by the long line ups on the weekends and I've been there for dinner and wasn't all that impressed. I finally had the opportunity to have breakfast there on a weekday with no line up and I left very satisfied and very happy. The best breakfast I've had in Calgary to date. I had a delicious omelet and my girlfriend had the buckwheat pancakes with pumpkin butter. Both were amazing! They have different menu choices than the normal breakfast places and it was fantastic! I guess the line ups are worth it! A Deluxe Haiku: Weird food, weird decor I'm not so sure about this Wowzer! Delicious!"

September 2009 — "Look for Diner Deluxe on Edmonton Trail because it is super easy to miss. There are loads of spots for parking, circling around the Diner. Even after eating later in the afternoon, we still had to wait for a table, illustrating the popularity of the place. I haven't made a stop at Diner Deluxe for over a year, but I can honestly say, they have consistent food and service. With loads of breakfast choices as well as burger and sandwich options, it was good for someone like me, who isn't a big fan of the breakfast platters consisting of eggs and bacon. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it came nice and juicy. I couldn't finish it because of how big it was, but it was very flavorful, made specially to my order with little cheese and huge potato wedges. My friends ordered eggs benedict and the omelet. The veggie omelet was good, but was a bit heavy on the salt. My friends egg benedict was good and came with a good portion of hash browns and yams, which was a little different but good. The one complaint was the flies that swarmed around us throughout the meal, but all it all, it was great. "

"Really long wait."

July 2009 — "I’m the kind of person that hates to wait in line, so when they told me there was going to be a 30 minute wait I nearly left. However, all of my friends wanted to try it out since they had heard some good things. While waiting at the door, they offer you free coffee which is a nice gesture. The waiting area is basically the hallway into the restaurant, so there is really no room and some people were waiting outside. After finally getting seated, the menu appeared to have some good choices, prices were a bit expensive but still reasonable. I ordered the eggs benedict, and although I’ve had better, this was not too bad. I think after the coffee and breakfast, my tab came just over 17 bucks. Service was pretty slow because it was so busy and it was very crowded even after sitting down. I just couldn’t get comfortable while eating. For the price and because of the wait time, I think next time I would rather go else where."

December 2008 — "Sometimes you go to a place to eat, and something just rubs you the wrong way. I'm sorry to say, eating at this place did just that. I can't help but feel an aura of disingenuous hipster-chic whenever I dine here. That's not to say your food isn't good. I ordered a ham-chop with a potato pancake, and while it was adequate, the price-point (which was quite high, I might add) made me somewhat disappointed. The service was good, and it seems like the place would be fun to work at. Ultimately though, everything about this place just seems so artificial. Whereas other diners seem to organically attract Calgary's young scenesters, Diner Deluxe appears to have been designed to take advantage of them. When talking to my friends about this place it seems to be a mixed-bag. Some of them really love it, and some like myself simply can't stand it's ambiance."

August 2007 — "Diner Deluxe is a great place for a Sunday morning brunch with friends, just be sure to get there early as there is always a line up but the food and drinks are well worth the wait. Their Eggs Benedict is one of the best in Calgary and the lattes are a dream. What makes it even better is the servers, who are friendly and helpful, which is hard to find in Calgary these days. As always a delicious meal."

"A Fun Atmosphere and Good Breakfasts!"

April 2007 — "Featuring a retro atmosphere and great food, Diner Deluxe is a popular breakfast choice for those that live in the Crescent Heights/Renfrew area. The menu is filled with hearty breakfast items, including three kinds of bennys, French toast, steak and eggs and so much more. The homemade potatoes and yams are very yummy and they also have a great selection of loose-leaf green teas. Diner Deluxe is also open for lunch and dinner and serves what looks like a great selection of sandwiches and entrees. I recommend this restaurant for those who want something less mainstream, but beware, there is always a lineup on weekends. "

"Great Atmosphere"

August 2006 — "I recently went to Diner Deluxe for brunch. I've tried to go a few times before but the wait for a table is usually huge (up to an hour!). Anyway, this time, we only had to wait for 10 minutes, and we got to watch Bugs Bunny on an old-fashioned TV set while sipping fresh coffee while we waited. The atmosphere is terrific - full of 50's decor that made me feel like I was a kid at my grandma's again. The menu has some great items, such as smoked salmon eggs benedict, buckwheat pancakes with vanilla bean compote, etc. I got the Chocolate French Toast with grilled bananas - yum! The service was bit slow, but very friendly. I would definetly go back - as long as we didn't have to wait for a super long time. "

June 2006 — "This fabulous 50s diner is not just good eats it's all about the comfort. The decor is like grandma's kitchen, but funked out and the service is just as friendly. Complimentary coffee is a nice touch for those waiting in line and there is always a line on any given Saturday or Sunday morning. Diner Deluxe puts a twist on traditional breakfast by adding little things like sweet potatoes in the hash browns and freshly baked specialty breads from the adjoining bakery. And the coffee is to die for!"
