We've been dining here regularly for three years and have never been let down -- one of Edmonton's best kept secrets. It's not as fancy as Il Portico or with the incredible service there, but I would have to say that the food is consistently better and far more reasonable -- very tasty and innovative Italian dishes in large servings. We've compared Il Pasticcio Trattoria to most other Italian restaurants in Edmonton and overall rate this as the best. IMHO, the calamari appetizer (not deep-fried, absolutely melt in your mouth tender in a wonderful light tomato sauce with herbs) and the Beef Carpaccio are the best in the City if not much further afield. All of the mains we've tried are fantastic. And, the portions are large; we always take home leftovers if we order appetizers with our meal. The wine menu is a nice mix of great affordable vino with some nice surprises. Dessert is always fresh and enjoyable.
Caveats include the following:
- big screen tv with sports always on (this is distracting)
- occasional rock music in background (we prefer something a little less dishevelling while we enjoy this incredible food and the nice, not too casual decor
- some of the newer servers are not as attentive or well-trained as some of the veterans.
All being said, we (and others we know who have been going for much longer than us) will continue to patronize Il Pasticcio Trattoria!

August 2007 — "We went to Il Pasticcio for a friend's birthday last week. It was very good. It was very busy, and there were about 12 of us, so service was a little slow, but understandably so. Great wine selection. The menu has quite a wide variety of dishes on it. Appetizers are in the $10 range, pasta's in the $15-16 range, and main dishes about $22-25. I tried the fusili with baby lobster and chicken in a garlic cream sauce. It was fantastic. The portions are huge and the food is tasty, fresh, and colorful. Our entire table was very satisfied with their choices, and half of us went home with left-overs. The atmosphere is unassuming and casual, with full bright windows. We will definitely be back when we are in the mood for pasta. "

Located across from the Le Marchand mansion, this hip eatery's superb quality of food, the copious servings and the outstanding service remains nearly unmatched.
